The BMW i5 Sedan Added to the Electric and Hybrid Car Assembly

MANILA: The automobile industry is adding more flavors to its offering by introducing electric and hybrid cars. Since the time is changing and so does the environment, there is an acute need of such vehicles which are efficient and at the same time provide the joy of driving. So, for the green automobile enthusiasts, there is a good news that the German automakers, BMW are coming up with i5 sedan to expand their “i” line-up.

Near about a month earlier, it was heard that the third “i” model would take its own time of around ten years, said the BMW's Research and development chief, Klaus Froehlich. But the Automobile Magazine has revealed that the i5 is ready to enter the Leipzig factory for production where it will share its assembly with i3 and i8. That means the sedan would find its place in between these two cars and will also show up soon, at least not a decade away.

Further, the esteemed magazine adds that the i5 will be as long as i8 and will also possess roomier interiors with longest possible wheelbase and short overhangs. The sedan will have enough space for a family-size luggage compartment because the electric motor will be placed between the rear wheels. BMW engineers are intending to keep its weight below 1564 kg by using a lot of carbon fiber in its construction.

Based on the 5-Series sedan, it will come in two variants; pure electric and plug-in hybrid. The electric version will be powered by two motors wherein a rear motor deliver 228 PS and front-mounted motor generates 137 PS. The plug-in hybrid will be equipped with three or four-cylinder engine with a rear electric motor that delivers 279 PS of power. Although, there is no confirmation about its drivetrain yet.
