BMW Z4 production to end in Q1 2026

MANILA: BMW has unveiled the swan song for the Z4 roadster — signaling the end of an era for the brand.

In a statement, the premium German automotive marque shared that the production for the open-top sports car will end come March 2026.

However, as a nod to the iconic nameplate, the company is set to release the “BMW Z4 Final Edition — making it the pinnacle of the third-generation offering.

A short order window is set for the limited-run offering beginning late January 2026.

“The upcoming BMW Z4 Final Edition provides fans with a time-limited opportunity to order a very special version of this vehicle – one that may well become a collectors’ item. It comes with specific equipment elements that create individual highlights on the outside as well as in the interior. At the same time, the Final Edition represents this iconic two‑seater’s crowning glory,” the European vehicle manufacturer shared.

Final Edition notable features

Here are the distinctive features of the BMW Z4 Final Edition.

To easily identify the Final Edition from the standard BMW Z4 units, the car wears the exclusive Frozen Matt Black body color (but can be had in other paint options available in the model’s range at no extra cost. Aside from that, it also sports M Sport brakes in glossy red color.

For its cabin, the vehicle has distinctive contrasting red seams that ties together the instrument panel, center console, door trims and M Sport seats in Vernasca Leather and Alcantara.

Other noticeable portions of the BMW Z4 Final Edition are:

• Specially engraved door sill strips

BMW Z4 history

Launched in 2002, the first BMW Z4 came from the successful lineage of the two-seaters such as the 328 Roadster, 507 and Z8. It also served as the direct successor of the BMW Z3.

The model that was produced in the Spartanburg facility in South Carolina offered customers agility, thanks to 50/50 weight distribution. This complemented the 340-hp six-cylinder in-line engine from the BMW M3 — allowing the vehicle to accelerate 0-100 kilometers in five seconds flat.

Meanwhile, the second-generation BMW Z4 that was introduced in December 2008 came with classic proportions as its predecessor but has been matched with notable engineering.

This came with an electro-hydraulically retractable hardtop made up of two sections that can be opened or closed with a touch of a button in 20 seconds.

Other key features that have been incorporated in the said version are the increased head- and elbow room as well as the integration of the BMW iDrive infotainment system.

For the third and final generation, which premiered in August 2018, BMW gave the roadster an electrically operated fabric softtop, sporty handling and a purist, driver-focused interior design.

The top-tier offering comes with a 3.0-liter straight-six engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology in the BMW Z4 M40i, which has been offered with a manual transmission since 2024 as the Pure Impulse Edition.
