Toyota Group offers to privatize Toyota Industries

MANILA: The Toyota Group has offered to privatize Toyota Industries.

According to the Japanese carmaker, Toyota Fudosan — whose shares are held by Toyota Group companies — will invest some ¥180 billion (approximately P69.748 billion).

In addition, Toyota Motor will invest approximately ¥700 billion (around P271.125 billion) in non-voting preferred shares.

Meanwhile, Akio Toyoda is said to invest ¥1 billion (roughly P387.309 million) in the transaction.

“Through this privatization, Toyota Industries intends to deepen collaboration within Toyota Group, dynamically and swiftly advance these activities, and lead the way in the mobility sector with respect to ‘goods’ for the transformation of Toyota Group,” the company wrote in a press release.

Toyota Motor, along with its suppliers Aisin Corporation, Denso Corporation, and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, will sell their shares in Toyota Industries. Toyota Motor will continue to invest in Toyota Industries in the form of the non-voting shares mentioned above.

This move, the company stated, “will dissolve the cross-shareholding between Toyota Industries and those four companies.”
