Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid to Run Long Miles
MANILA: The plug in hybrid cars are not only the cars which have two powertrains but also has a number of benefits. The count of benefits start from less petroleum use, less emissions, saving of money, and better fuel economy. The hybrid vehicles have an electric motor that allows drivers to go a limited distance, probably 30 to 40 miles and for the rest of the distance, the gasoline engine takes the lead. Further, to maintain the position in the segment of hybrid vehicles, it is reported that Toyota has plans to enhance all-electric range of the next-gen Prius.
The current plug in Prius has the electric range of nearly 18 km, whereas the 2016 Prius is expected with better figures like 48-56 km. “How will this happen”, still stays a mystery but according to some previous reports, it can be said that the 2016 Prius will be fitted with a new electric motor along with a new engine, codenamed as 2ZR-FXZ. The alleged electric motor is said to be powerful with an output of 90 PS. For a range of 48 to 56 km, the electric motor is surely one of the main player but even the software which manages the hybrid system should have also been upgraded.
