Updated VinFast VF 8 launched in Vietnam, will it come to PH soon?

MANILA: The VinFast VF 8 has been updated for 2026 in Vietnam with “comprehensive user experience enhancements.”

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the new VinFast VF 8?

It is powered by a single electric motor at the front wheels.
  • How much power does it make?

The updated VinFast VF 8 generates 228 horsepower and 330 Newton-meters.
  • According to the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, the upgrades to its technology platform were developed by the Hanoi-headquartered company’s engineering team to deliver a smoother, more convenient, and more stable driving experience.

“As one of the models that helped mark VinFast’s transition toward becoming a global all-electric vehicle manufacturer, the VF 8 is the first model in the lineup to receive comprehensive upgrades in design, technology, and features, bringing notable improvements to both driving performance and overall user experience,” VinFast wrote in a press release.

    Other stories:

    ‘Tech Fluid’ philosophy

Per VinFast, the refreshed VF 8 was designed with the “Tech Fluid” philosophy in mind, which brings the idea of integrating technology into the vehicle’s design language and everyday usability.

As such, the electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) evokes “seamlessness, refinement, and a sense of motion.”

Translating the said vision into tangible sheet metal is a body with the following measurements:

Overall length, width, height (in millimeters [mm>)

    4,701 x 1,872 x 1,670

    Wheelbase (in mm)

    2,840

    Ground clearance (in mm)

    170

Together with a set of 19-inch wheels, the above dimensions allow the new VinFast VF 8 to handle a variety of driving conditions with flexibility.

Notable exterior features that showcase its modern design language include a wide gloss-black grille paired with VinFast’s signature wing-shaped daytime running lights. It also has large air intakes integrated into both sides of the front bumper, which contribute to aerodynamic efficiency and add visual depth to the overall design.

To its sides are smooth door panels with defined character lines and a window line that gradually rises toward the rear, creating a sense of movement even when the vehicle is stationary.

Its rear end adopts a minimalist approach with large taillights integrated with VinFast’s signature V-shaped LED strip. The marque notes that the design “contributes to aerodynamic performance” and gives the electric SUV a younger, more dynamic appearance.

Similar updates were made inside the cabin, giving the interior an intuitive and ergonomic layout as evidenced by its five-seater arrangement with sport-inspired ergonomic seats. The driver is treated to a six-way power-adjustable setup with memory function.

On the other hand, the second-row seats recline and fold flat in a 60:40 split to increase cargo capacity when needed.

Taking center stage — dashboard-wise — is a 12.9-inch infotainment display with a clear interface integrating most vehicle controls in a user-friendly format. It is accompanied by a digital instrument cluster behind the multi-functional steering wheel, which is fitted with a steering-column-mounted gear selector.

Managing audio delivery is an eight-speaker sound system.

VinFast notes that the new domestic-market VF 8 gets an integrated virtual assistant that supports multiple Vietnamese dialects.

Keeping passengers cool is a dual-zone automatic climate control system with integrated air ionization and a Combi 1.0 air filter.

    New platform

The VinFast VF 8 now uses a new chassis platform featuring a suspension system equipped with frequency-selective dampers on both the front and rear axles.

According to the company, the said system can adjust damping characteristics according to road conditions, thereby reducing vibrations on rough surfaces while maintaining vehicle stability — something we Filipinos can use when plying worn-out thoroughfares.

In addition, the updated VinFast VF 8 features a newly developed electrical and electronic architecture based on the software-defined vehicle approach.

Designed by VinFast’s engineers, the system architecture and control software reflect the company’s capability to develop core vehicle technologies in-house.

At the core of this new system is a central vehicle computer, which manages data processing and vehicle control functions to support quicker and smoother responses to driver inputs.

Notably, the new-generation VinFast VF 8 is equipped with an integrated thermal management system independently researched, developed, and patented by the Vietnamese car manufacturer.

It manages cooling and heating functions for the battery, motor, electrical system, and cabin climate control to help maintain stable vehicle performance, improve energy efficiency, support fast charging capability, and contribute to battery and motor durability, while maintaining cabin comfort in varying weather conditions.

    Electric powertrain

Electric propulsion is facilitated by an electric motor that generates 228 horsepower and 330 Newton-meters. Power gets sent to the front wheels with three drive modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport) to tailor the vehicle’s performance depending on one’s driving needs.

It draws power from a 60.13-kilowatt-hour battery pack that allows the VinFast VF 8 to drive up to 500 kilometers (km) in a single charge.

    Safety

When it comes to safety, the new VinFast VF 8 receives advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) in the form of the following:

    • Highway assist
    • Adaptive cruise control
    • Lane keeping assist
    • Blind spot warning
    • High-definition 360-degree camera

Further, VinFast states that the VF 8’s structure and ADAS technologies were developed with the aim of meeting ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) five-star safety requirements.

    Pricing, deliveries

In Vietnam, the new VinFast VF 8 is priced at VND 999 million or approximately P2.338 million.

The EV SUV will be offered with a warranty of seven years or 160,000 km for the vehicle and eight years or 160,000 km for the battery, whichever comes first.

Deliveries will commence in late July, 2026.

    Is PH next?

VinFast Philippines has yet to announce whether or not it will bring the new VF 8 to the country.

But since the brand is a member of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Incorporated, which organizes the upcoming Philippine International Motor Show, it is possible that some announcements will be made at the auto expo.
