US-exclusive Mazda CX-50 is first vehicle to roll out of new Alabama facility
MANILA: Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) President and CEO Jeff Cuyton drove the first CX-50 to roll out of the Discovery Line at the company’s new facility in Alabama, USA. Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) is a joint venture between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation. The first-ever CX-50 was developed exclusively for North America.

MTM started operations in September 2021 and targets to produce 300,000 vehicles per year. Up to 4,000 employees will be recruited for the plant. Suppliers are projected to employ several thousand workers as well.
The 2023 CX-50 is said to be a tough and capable crossover SUV. It offers excellent driving dynamics and features a stunning design, as one would expect from a Mazda vehicle. It also allows drivers to travel further into the outdoors and across various terrains.
The CX-50 comes standard with Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) and the newest i-Activ All-Wheel Drive (AWD) technology. The new drive modes, which can be set via the Mi-Drive switch, assist the vehicle in driving naturally in a various conditions, such as exhilarating off-road terrain or providing dependable towing capabilities.
At launch, CX-50 buyers can choose between two engines – the Skyactiv-G 2.5 naturally aspirated engine and Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine — both mated to a snappy six-speed automatic transmission. The CX-50 will also be available with electrified powertrains in the coming years. More details about the electrified variants will be released at a later date.
