Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR goes on sale in Germany

MANILA: Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR has finally gone on sell in Germany. Official images of the production version of this powerful VW car have appeared and it looks almost indistinguishable to the concept. The price starts from EUR 38,950 (roughly Php 2,328,993).

The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR concept was previewed first at Wörtherseetreffen event in Austria back in 2018. The name “Golf GTI TCR” is taken from the two-time winner at the TCR International Series and comes with a four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI engine that can make 290 PS of power and 370 Nm of torque.

Along with that, it gets two extra radiators for cooling option while delivering a high level of performance. The power is sent to the front wheel via a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox, which features a front-axle differential lock. The car can go at a top speed of 250 kmph, which can be upgraded to a maximum of 260 kmph. The 0-100 kmph sprint can be made in 5.6 seconds.

Speaking about the styling, the Golf GTI TCR gets the side skirts logo projector and a new front spoiler, which is different from the regular GTI. Precisely, the “TCR” logo is projected onto the ground when the front doors are opened. Inside the cabin, the seats are upholstered with a combination of fabric and microfibre. The same microfibre material is also used on the gear lever and the door inserts.

The price of the first package is EUR 2,350 (roughly Php 14,0661), including Reifnitz 19-inch rims with 235/35 tyres, the Vmax upgrade, a sportier rear damping system and Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) adaptive chassis control system.

On the other hand, the second package, including Pretoria 19-inch rims with 235/35 profile racetrack-ready sports tyres (semi-slicks) along with the sports dampers and DCC, is priced at EUR 3,200 (roughly Php 19,1539).
