Volvo PH adds PHEV options for XC60, XC90

MANILA: Volvo Philippines, under the distributorship of Hariphil Asia Resources Incorporated, widened the options for  the XC60 and XC90. 

The two newly-launched versions of the sport utility vehicle (SUV) nameplates are plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) that both come with an electric rear motor and a larger battery. The aforementioned are combined with their 2.0-liter inline-four gasoline engines. 

No output figures were shared by Volvo's local arm, but the global version of the XC60 PHEV can generate up to 462 horsepower (hp) and 709 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque - a healthy increase over the old version’s 313 hp and 460 Nm of torque. 

According to Volvo Global, the updated model's output figures can enable it to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 4.8 seconds. 

Apart from its peppy performance, the new XC60 PHEV can now provide a pure electric range of 80 kilometers (km). The SUV models remained an all-wheel-drive (AWD) model, courtesy of the brand’s advanced e-AWD system. 

The global version of the updated Volvo XC90 PHEV, on the other hand, features a similar powertrain with identical output figures, albeit with a shorter all-electric range of 77 km.

Style-wise, the Philippine-spec XC60 and XC90 PHEV models largely retain the same exterior body shape as their predecessors. Both also continue to use the nameplate’s signature “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlamp clusters, albeit with some slight changes to their shape. 

The two SUV models also feature new diamond pattern grilles, black-colored finishes, revised LED daytime running lamp designs, new 19-inch wheels, and additional carved details on their wheel arches. 

Inside, the two Volvo-made SUV units boast a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. Its front seats also get electronic adjustability, a massage function, and cushion extensions. Specific to the XC90 are Nappa leather upholstered seats, while the XC60 comes standard with Nordico leather. 

Dominating the dashboards of the updated models is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a portrait-style 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The said infotainment system is connected to a premium Harman Kardon speaker set. 

Other notable features present inside the updated Volvo XC60 and XC90 PHEV include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Orrefors crystal gear shifter
• Laminated side glass
• Automatic air-conditioning

Safety-wise, the XC60 and XC90 were also equipped with collision avoidance systems, a 360-degree view camera, blind-spot monitoring, intersection autobraking, and Volvo’s Pilot Assist system.
