It has a maxi-scooter-esque body type, much like the Yamaha Aerox and NMax models sold in the Philippines — but with a few modifications.

According to Yamaha Motor Company Limited, its benefits include the following:

    Use of electric motor

    Use of internal combustion engine

    • Riding on electric power for quietness in residential areas, workplace
    • Riding on electric power while charging on congested roads
    • Riding with the engine in suburban areas
    • Power generation via the engine for recreational riding
    • Long-distance travel on a single tank with ultra-low fuel use and emission

The Yamaha Proto HEV is also capable of regenerative braking when braking on downhill slopes to recover some lost power. It also has a triple boost feature for overtaking.

    All-electric range was not disclosed.

    Proto PHEV

Yamaha Motor Company also brought out a plug-in hybrid vehicle, based on the MT-09 motorbike.

Due to its sport bike build, the concept motorcycle is aimed at enthusiasts who would like to enjoy the benefits of using a hybrid motorcycle but are inclined to travel longer distances.

As such, the Yamaha Proto PHEV boasts an electric motor-only range of 10 to 30 kilometers with a top speed of 70 kilometers per hour when using electric power only.

Combined (with a full tank), the range of the Yamaha Proto PHEV is greater than the MT-09 thanks to an improved fuel consumption of over 20 percent.

Top speed is also greater than its full combustion engine-powered counterpart.

The vehicle expo is scheduled from October 30-November 9, 2025, at the Tokyo Big Sight in Ariake, Tokyo.
