MANILA: Last week, Yamaha Motor Philippines (YMPH) released the latest iteration of the Aerox and noticeably, the sporty automatic scooter no longer bears the Mio nameplate.

The price of the all-new Mio Aerox ranges from P125,900-P163,900.YMPH Marketing Brand Execution Section Manager Toni Boi Acuesta told Zigwheels Philippines the reason behind such a move.
Per Acuesta, the company wants to keep the Mio badging for small-displacement scooters fitted with 125 cubic-centimeter (cc) engines.
Photo by Juan Paulo Papa“We keep the Mio on the 125 (pertaining to the engine displacement size) because we want to retain the original roots of Mio,” Acuesta explained.
“Kasi pag sinabi mo talagang Mio, that’s your starter bike — kaya with the 125 you still have the Mio — but of course with the 155, these already can stand on their own, such as the Aerox, and NMax (because if you really say Mio, that's your starter bike — so with the 125 you still have the Mio — but of course with the 155, these can already stand on their own, such as the Aerox, and NMax),” he explained.

“Gusto naming bigyan ng panibagong twist and panibagong experience yung Filipino consumer natin (we want to give our Filipino consumers a new twist and a new experience),” Acuesta concluded.
