Honda Click 125 engine now PH-made

MANILA — Honda Philippines Incorporated (HPI) has started the local production of the new Click 125’s engine — just days after the model’s official launch.

This development marks another milestone for the Japanese motorcycle distributor, whose initial local assembly began with the Click 125 frame in December 2022.

The milestone was formalized through a Line Off Ceremony at the company’s manufacturing facility in Batangas, spearheaded by HPI President Takeshi Kobayashi.

Joining him were key executives and engineering leaders from Japan and Southeast Asia, including Junichiro Imamura of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Expert Engineer Taguchi Tetsuro, and Hikaru Yokomura of Honda Research and Development Southeast Asia.

With this development, engines for the locally retailed Honda Click 125 will no longer be sourced from Indonesia.

The announcement comes after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the merger between HPI and Honda Parts Manufacturing Corporation (HPMC)  on February 10. The consolidation — with the brand’s motorcycle arm as the surviving entity — will take effect starting April 1, 2026.

Boosting Local Manufacturing and Flexibility

According to HPI, the localization of engine production underscores Honda’s long-term investment in Philippine manufacturing, enhancing production flexibility while meeting rising demand for commuter motorcycles.

“The increase in localization aims to promote flexibility,” Kobayashi explained. “We must expand our capability to supply the growing demand with the highest quality and innovative technology.”

HPI added that manufacturing the new powertrain also boosts supply chain resilience, shortens production lead times, and strengthens its contribution to the domestic manufacturing sector.

This drivetrain features an Enhanced Smart Power system that delivers up to 11 horsepower and 11 Newton-meters of torque. It also achieves a fuel efficiency of 50.3 kilometers per liter based on World Motorcycle Test Cycle standards.

According to HPI, the Honda Click 125 has significantly contributed to the brand’s achievements last year. Alongside other models, the company surpassed one million units in both retail and wholesale sales.

With its new stylish design, smarter features, and dependable performance, the Click125 reflects Honda’s promise of continuous innovation to make everyday mobility better for our riders,” HPI said in a statement.
