MDPPA shows continued moto sales growth in H1 2026

MANILA: Overall sales of the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) for the first half of 2026 grew by 3.58 percent year on year.

In a statement, the group—made up of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha—shared that its year-to-date retail performance for January-June 2026 is 939,528 units—slightly higher than the 907,054 units turned over to clients during the same period last year.

The organization expressed firm belief that the churn reflected the continued importance of motorcycles as an essential mobility solution for Filipinos.

MDPPA’s sales figures was buoyed by its performance in the opening quarter when the organization sold 496,868 units—an 11.6 percent increase over the same period in 2025.

In the second quarter, sales went down by 4.2 percent year on year—dropping to 442,660 from the 462,007 units posted during the same period last year.

Sales per category

Cornering the biggest share in the MDPPA sales for the initial half of 2026 are the automatic motorcycles with 655,004 units sold.

Business motorcycles placed second with 148,989 units, while mopeds (backbone motorcycles) accounted for 107,632 units.

Models under the street category reached 24,346 units while big bikes contributed 2,994 units. Other motorcycle categories accounted for 563 units.

"The first half of the year reflects the resilience of the Philippine motorcycle industry," said MDPPA President Erwin Estrada.

"While market conditions have become more challenging compared with last year's exceptionally strong performance, motorcycles continue to meet the everyday mobility needs of Filipinos. The industry's continued growth demonstrates that consumers recognize the value motorcycles provide through affordability, fuel efficiency, and dependable transportation for work, business, and daily life."

Further, MDPPA shared that analysts is optimistic that the local motorcycle market will continue to show steady long-term growth, supported by sustained demand for affordable mobility solutions, and the sector’s ability to adapt to changing economic conditions.
