Yamaha R9 gets LTO approval

MANILA: It seems that the Yamaha YZF R9 will be released in the Philippine market after all.

This, as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) released the homologation papers for the sport motorcycle last July 29 — specifically a few days before the Yamaha Motor Show 2025 was mounted.

To note, such a document determines “under what schedule of registration fees or classification” vehicles should fall.

It can be recalled that Yamaha Motor Philippines noted that the performance-oriented model is not yet for sale.

Here are some bits of information about the Yamaha R9 as stated in the recently-released Memorandum Circular VDM-2025-4594.

Motorcycle specifications

Based on the LTO papers, the Yamaha YZF R9 has the following measurements:

Overall dimensions (length, width, height; in millimeters [mm>)	2,070 x 705 x 1,180
Wheelbase (in mm)	1,420
Ground clearance (in mm)	140
Net capacity (in kilograms)	270 kilograms
Gross vehicle weight (in kilograms)	360

This two-wheeler sits on 17-inch wheels in ZR-rated tires.

Powering the two-wheeler is a three-cylinder, 890-cubic centimeter gasoline-fed engine — the same mill that can be found in the model’s counterparts in the United States (US), Canada, and Europe.

With this, we are expected the soon-to-be-sold version in the Philippines will have the same six-speed transmission with slipper clutch that is also found in the motorcycle’s US-retailed version.

According to the LTO document, the Yamaha YZF R9 can run as fast 280 kilometers per hour.

During the recently-concluded Yamaha Motor Show held in Makati a few weeks ago, the Yamaha YZF R9 is equipped with:

• Lightweight deltabox and aluminum frame
• Aerodynamic winglets and bodywork
• Brembo Stylema front brake calipers
• Fully-adjustable suspension
• Yamaha Ride Control modes
• Advanced rider aids with six-axis internal measurement unit
• Cruise control and variable speed limiter
• Five-inch thin-film transistor display with smartphone connectivity

 As of posting, Japanese motorcycle marque’s arm in the country still has yet to confirm other important details about the Yamaha YZF R9 — which includes pricing and launch date, so we are keeping are eyes open for any possible announcements.

In the US, the 2025 Yamaha YZF R9 carries a price tag of $12,499 (around P727,159).
