Yamaha Motor PH celebrates 70 years of ‘Kando’

MANILA: Yamaha Motor Philippines (YMPH) recently celebrated Yamaha Day 2025, honoring 70 years of Kando. 

The term — the Japanese brand’s local subsidiary pointed out — means “a feeling of deep satisfaction and intense excitement that arises when encountering something of exceptional value, quality, or performance.” 

And for Yamaha, Kando is more than just a creative compass  — it is a way of life; a commitment that powers every engine, every note, every wave, and every breakthrough. 

‘Bridging Legacy and Tomorrow Through Kando’ 

YMPH celebrated the company’s 70th anniversary with the theme “Bridging Legacy and Tomorrow Through Kando,” and gathered thousands of its employees to rediscover the brand through a series of immersive activities. 

A ride through memory lane 

The very first Yamaha motorcycle was built in 1955. Dubbed YA1, the machine — assembled by a daring team —  was also nicknamed Akitombo or the Red Dragonfly due to its two-tone colorway that combined cream and a reddish-brown hue reminiscent of the chestnut coat of a fine horse. 

YA1 later proved that it had more to offer than just beauty. Later, it conquered the grueling Mount Fuji Ascent Race, which “stirred the market’s interest” and ignited a spark “that lit the flame of Yamaha Motor.” 

Same spirit, different age 

70 years later, the same daring spirit fuels Yamaha Motor’s global journey, from land to sea (motorcycles and marine), through sound and beyond (music and robotics). 

During the event, YMPH brought together long-time employees — who rediscovered the essence of Kando) — and younger talents, who are learning about Kando the first time.

• An immersive Kando Journey walk 
• Expressed themselves on the Kando wall setup
• Motorcycle test ride activities
