Ford has been making vehicles with really tough build quality since the beginning, and the Ecosport, despite its compact size and affordability, possesses great build. It classifies under one of the strongest SUVs when it comes to fit and finish, which is comparable to SUVs from one segment above.
Being a compact SUV in today’s time is one tough job, as it has to be one great value for money offering. The Ecosport does offer some really nice and premium comfort and convenience as well as safety features for a vehicle of its class, which makes it one of the most fully loaded compact SUVs.
Following the traditions of its siblings, the Ecosport offers brilliant driving dynamics. The suspension feels sturdy, the feel from steering feels connective and the body roll is well under control, despite having a high ground clearance of nearly 200mm.
Being a sub-four meter compact SUV, the Ecosport falls a bit short in terms of in-cabin space. While the feel in front seats is fantastic, the rear bench feels a bit cramped with limited legroom and knee room, making it a bit uncomfortable for long runs.
While the Ford Ecosport showcases tough build quality, some of the switches as well as dashboard panels comprise of low-quality bits, making it feel a bit low rent at some places.
The Ecosport’s 1.5-litre petrol engine pumps out a decent amount of power and torque outputs, however, the fuel efficiency in urban conditions is a bit underwhelming.

The Ford EcoSport has been existing in the international markets since 2003 as a mini sports utility vehicle. It wasn't until 2012 that the second generation was launched with a complete facial haul over. The American automaker has been trying to woo customers with the EcoSport's sporty design, as this segment is still in the development stage. Crossing the sales bar with every passing month, it looks that Filipinos have created a sweet spot for this American auto marque. Challenging the likes of auto giants from Japan isn’t a walk in the park but EcoSport has managed to handle things decently. In the Philippines automobile market, the EcoSport lock horns with the Nissan Juke, Chevrolet Trax, and the Kia Soul. It is available in four variants: 1.5L Titanium AT, 1.5L Trend AT, 1.5L Trend MT, and the 1.5L Ambiente MT.
Inside the cabin, it is quite unorthodox. The all-black looks fascinating though, which gets decked up with silver accents. For the current version, there are minor alterations done to the centre console, instrument panel, and the dashboard. Otherwise, it looks similar to the outgoing model. The dark shade somewhat makes it look a little more compact than it really is. However, its taller body and spacious cabin make it up for a comfortable ride for both, the driver as well as for the passengers. The headroom isn’t a matter of concern so is the legroom, EcoSport offers it generously. Additionally, its higher seating position gives you a sense of driving a full-size SUV. The SYNC3 infotainment system comes with a touchscreen that makes it easy to manage while you are on the go. It is integrated with facilities like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and GPS navigation. It can also help you control the climate inside the car when beating the sun’s scorching heat is the only worry for you. The entertainment system offers support for MP3/AUX-in/USB/iPod/AM/FM too. On the storage front, it gets multiple bottle holders and spaces at the console for your knick-knacks along with a cooled glovebox and around 20 storage compartments. It sports a generous max cargo space of 705-litre which is highly generous in the segment.
The exteriors of Ford EcoSport have always been impressive and it is one of the hot reasons for its immense popularity in the international markets. With a few design tweaks on its exteriors, Ford has kept things familiar for the 2018 Ford EcoSport. It continues to feature an aggressive front fascia with a bigger front grille and associated horizontal bars, a small air dam for a bolder look and the fog lights which are more pronounced than before. The headlamps have gone a bit longer on the 2018 edition of the compact SUV. The squat bonnet design and prominent character lines across the body make it look even more attractive. At the rear, minor updates are noticeable too including a restyled bumper, tail lights, and the spare tyre carrier. Suspension duties are handled by independent McPherson Strut with coil spring at the front while at the rear it is equipped with a semi-independent twist beam with gas and oil-filled shock absorbers. The EcoSport Ambiente comes with a 15-inch steel wheel with 195/65 R15 tyres while the higher variants, Trend, and Titanium run on 16-inch alloy wheels that are shod with 205/60 R16 section tyres. It gets a ground clearance of 200mm which is generous enough to keep away the rough patches, potholes, and bumps.
Being a subcompact crossover, the Ford EcoSport isn’t going to blow you away with its superb handling. It isn’t a Fiesta. But still, the handling of the new model has been improved thanks to wider tires and larger 17-inch wheels. Also, Ford has set the suspension a bit towards the firmer side to get that much extra stability in the corners. The body roll has been reduced but can still be felt when driving enthusiastically around bends.
The Ford EcoSport comes with a full suite of safety features that helps you and others in the car feel safe at all times. It gets features like traction control and electronic stability program (ESP) that grants excellent control in corners. It comes with dual front airbags, ABS (Anti-lock braking system), ESC (electronic stability control), and the HLA (Hill Launch Assist). The rear parking sensors are part of the EcoSport Titanium’s offering list while ISOFIX is consistent with all the variants. The structure is made up of high-strength boron steel, which being lightweight, is four times stronger than the usual high-strength steel.
The updated EcoSport is definitely an improvement over the previous model. It looks better, performs better, handles better, features a large touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Ford has done a commendable job in making the new EcoSport an overall improved model. It clearly shows that Ford has paid attention while making the EcoSport even though it sits at the bottom of Ford’s SUV line-up here in the Philippines. Available in 6 color options - Ingot Silver, Race Red, Crystal White, Absolute Black, Blue Lightning, and Canyon Ridge - Ford EcoSport has a starting price of Php 918,000.
I drive to my office in my Ecosport and I must admit that this is truly a wonderful car when it comes to everyday practicality. The Ford Ecosport gets compact dimensions which not only make driving through traffic an easy task but also ensure that you are able to park it easily between tight spaces. The engine is very responsive
This is quite a trendy car and that is one reason I decided to go for this since the day I decided to buy a car. I love the outer look of the car and I find this quite a powerful vehicle too. Mileage wise this is again quite a commendable option. Being a spacious car this is offering its
Little did I enquire about this car or did a thorough online research while purchasing this car. I must say my overall opinion about this car is not at all impressive. I was in search for a subcompact SUV. Since Ford is such an esteemed brand I had no doubt about this model when I bought this. But later I
The Ford EcoSport is a good vehicle to drive on the city streets. It can also negotiate off-road driving to an extent but is more suited for city driving conditions. The car does a pretty decent job to take you from one point to another. But the 1.0-liter engine is a bit of an underperformer particularly when you take it
The Ford EcoSport has been with me for over a year now. The car is indeed very good in terms of its performance and handling as it never gives me any problem in handling the car at over triple digit speeds. It becomes very easy to blight it through the jams of the street on the highways and it makes
I loved this car for lot many reasons. One of the most striking points was I was getting an attractive looking car at an affordable price range. This car is compact and that makes it easy to ride. The maneuverability of this car is one of the prime reasons to opt for this. The infotainment system of this car is
I’ve been into subcompact SUVs ever since their introduction to the global stage. Recently, I had the option to sell my old SUV for the replacement of Ford EcoSport. It was a matter of minutes when I decided that I actually wanted to go with it. Post six months after the deal, I like to call myself a proud owner
I want to create my style statement even with the beauty of the car that I drive in. Thus, after thorough research online, I found this car, Ford EcoSport, suiting my requirements with absolute perfection. Firstly , the car looks sleek and stylish that can easily catch others attention the moment you hit the road behind the wheels of this
You may get a misconception with the name of this car. I feel this car is not as sporty as many of its competitors in the market. Neither can it be labeled as a fuel efficient car. But certain features of this car is definitely too alluring. Like its tall seating position. Majority of its buyers prefer to go for
The Ford Ecosport is a vehicle that is blessed with a responsive engine, comfortable cabin space and decent safety features. All these attributes make this car an ideal family vehicle. However, as far as the looks are concerned, I don’t think that there is anything stylish about this car. If you compare the front fascia and overall styling with other
