Hongqi HS3

The Hongqi HS3 features a minimalist cabin fitted with several soft-touch panels and cutting-edge technology. Up front, the driver is greeted by a high-tech cockpit consisting of a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel, an around view monitor, a sporty PVC-wrapped steering wheel with multiple controls and switches, as well as an electronic control shift lever.

Meanwhile, all passengers can enjoy another 12.6-inch LCD infotainment display that is paired with an 8-speaker sound system. Aside from that, this SUV comes with multiple USB sockets (Type-A and Type-C) and a 15-W wireless phone charger. 

Practicality-wise, its cabin can comfortably fit five passengers, while the trunk offers over 1,000 liters of cargo space with the rear seats folded. Its faux leather seats offer an impressive balance of comfort and ergonomics on the road. Younger-gen drivers and passengers will also like its panoramic glass sunroof. Overall, the HS3’s cabin balances modern functionality and aesthetics with everyday practicality. 

In terms of dimensions, the Hongqi HS3 measures 4,655 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height. This SUV also has a wheelbase of 2,770 mm and a ground clearance of 150 mm.

Appearance-wise, the Hongqi HS3 bears a slight resemblance to some Rolls-Royce models, thanks to its large chrome grille featuring vertical slats and a distinctive blacked-out pattern. At night, it projects a unique, strong flare through its LED headlamps and claw-like LED DRLs. Its headlamps are also equipped with an intelligent high beam control feature.

Meanwhile, its two-toned color scheme is very evident from the side, highlighted by its blacked-out floating roof design and mirrors. Its side garnishes are finished in red to reflect the Hongqi logo. Additionally, this SUV is fitted with 18-inch wheels wrapped in robust tyres. 

Aside from that, it flaunts a smart, hypermodern rear design, accentuated by T-shaped LED taillamps connected by a sleek light strip, which runs the entire width of the car. Underneath, it comes with a bulky rear bumper further defined by chrome contours. It also gets an electric tailgate for a more premium touch.

In terms of suspension, the Hongqi HS3 is equipped with MacPherson Struts at the front and a Multi-Link at the rear. This setup contributes to this SUV’s pliant and comfortable ride, absorbing bumps and other minor road imperfections with ease. In the city, it also handles decently for its size. Overall, its suspension system prioritizes comfort on the road.

The Hongqi HS3 is powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder, 16-valve, DOHC turbocharged gasoline engine that delivers 124 kW (166 hp) of maximum power and 258 Nm of maximum torque. This SUV utilizes a front-wheel drivetrain and comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission system. Additionally, it offers three driving modes: Eco, Comfort, and Sport.

While it may not be the most exciting or fastest in its segment, the HS3 can still deliver quite a nice punch off the line. Its DCT is also not the most responsive or smooth out there. On the plus side, however, external noise is kept to a minimum even at high speeds, thanks to its cabin’s excellent sound insulation system. It also offers decent fuel economy for its class. 

Safety is one of the main strengths of the Hongqi HS3. It is equipped with front and rear collision warning systems, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, a lane change assist system, a fatigue monitoring system, a door opening anti-collision warning system, a lateral warning system for reversing, as well as blind spot detection, among others. 

Its braking setup, which consists of front ventilated discs and rear regular discs, is also supported by an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic brake assist, traction control system, electronic stability program, and an electronic parking brake system.
