Overview

Mercedes-Benz is an unrivalled name in auto industry, an automobile manufacturer which traces its origin from the 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen. This German automaker is recognized all over the globe as an eminent manufacturer of Luxury Cars, buses, coaches and trucks. The Merc being the nonpareil sedan-maker added a new chapter to its history with the launch of a hot hatch marque, the all new A class. The A class features the elegance of a S class sedan and practicality of a hatchback. Mercedes-Benz debuted with the all new A class in 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show with a huge uproar. The A class sealed mouths of the hatchback extremists and provided a chance of exuberance for the less prodigal Mercedes lovers in Philippines.

Interior & Features

The aristocratic legacy of exteriors continues to roll inside the cabin as MB meticulously crafted AMG integrated interior of the A class hatchback. The A class offers a sports car aura in the cockpit, making one feel no less like Schumacher. The surfaces, shapes and high quality materials in harmony meets both eye and touch. The all new A class comes in three seating variants to ensure the comfort with a large selection of fabric upholstery. The Merc features a sporty three spoke steering wheel with multi-functional control offering intuitive controls and easy handling. The efficient automatic air conditioning system of the car comes with iconic turbine vents enhancing air flow and perfect ambiance throughout the cabin. Central console features a 5.8-inch screen that is embedded with high tech infotainment services. Apart from its comfort and styling, the hatch features a capacious boot space of 341-litres.

Exterior

Mercedes Benz A class being a proud member of the Merc family kept extant the aristocracy of the German sedan maker with its Classic AMG exterior. The arrow shaped front section with the symbolic Mercedes diamond grille and dynamic curved surfaces represents a sporty and emotional exterior. The coupe like side lining with curved roof escalating to the muscular rear in perfect rhythm throws a dynamic silhouette of the car. The all new A class is loaded with cluster headlamps integrated with daytime running LED's protruding a far sight even in the deep dark areas. The credits of this success saga goes to the significantly modified dimensions measuring of 4292 mm X 1780 mm X 1433 mm (L X W X H) suits nicely to the flamboyant body architecture. This hot hatchback is anchored by 17-inch alloys with standard tyre size of 225/45 R17.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

The German automaker munificently launched the A class in Philippines with 7 engine variants ranging from 1.5-Litre to 2.1-Litre in Petrol and Diesel respectively. Beneath the power-dome of the all new A class sits a silent 4 cylinder Turbo power engine cooing to release maximum power ranging from 88hp at 2750rpm to 4000rpm to 355hp at 6000 rpm with an efficient uphill force having a peak torque ranging from 240 Nm to 450 Nm (between 1200 rpm to 5000 rpm). With the indigenous sports divison AMG packaged in the Merc it hits 0-100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds and continues to accelerate until it reaches a top speed of 250 kmph. With 6-speed manual gearbox (7G-DCT automatic transmission) the car manages a great performance delivering an efficient mileage of 25 kmpl.

Braking & Safety

In the all new Mercedes Benz A class, one should just sit back and buckle up without any trepidation of road safety, as the German carmaker diligently installed highly efficient safety features. The car comes with efficient front and rear disc brakes coupled with anti-lock braking system limiting the wheel lock during instant braking conditions. The A class holds a unique McPherson suspension at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear proffering high level stability and comfort. The finesse of safety does not stalls here as the car comes with 3 Stage Electronic Stability program, Acceleration Skid Control, Attention Assist, Dynamic Handling Package, 8 air bags with optional kneebag and side window curtains making it a exemplary safety vehicle.

Verdict

The Mercedes Benz A class can be best described as “A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing”. With performance of a track car, comforts of a sedan and exteriors of a coupe, it is an exciting an ideal fantasy of all hatchback lovers.
