BAIC B60 Beaumont: check out its pros, cons

As most already know, sport utility vehicle models are all the rage here in the Philippines.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the price of the BAIC B60 Beaumont?

The BAIC B60 Beaumont retails at P2.898 million.
  • How much horsepower and torque can the BAIC B60 Beaumonth produce?

The BAIC B60 Beaumont can produce up to 161 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters of torque.
  • Particularly in the full-size segment, examples of the Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol have become a common sight on roads. Sure, they are not as prevalent as mid-size SUV nameplates, but many buyers have been smitten by their large, well-equipped interiors and powerful powertrains.

United Asia Automotive Group Incorporated, the distributor of BAIC models in the Philippines, is well aware of this fact and has therefore included the B60 Beaumont to its lineup when it returned to the local market.

Like its rivals, the BAIC B60 Beaumont boasts several notable qualities as a full-size, three-row SUV. But, does the model have any weaknesses as well? Let’s list down all the pros and cons of this nameplate to find out.

    Pros

    Imposing, well-equipped exterior

One key strength of the BAIC B60 Beaumont is its imposing appearance. The aforementioned, of course, is brought about by its hefty size, combined with square-shaped proportions, as well as its well-rounded lineup of exterior features.

Up front, the SUV model’s front fascia is dominated by a pair of square-shaped LED headlamp clusters, which perfectly line up with its slatted grille. Down below the front end is a silver-clad skid plate and a pair of sizable front fog lamps.

On its side sections, the B60 Beaumont gains some elegance through chrome pieces around its windows. Otherwise, its hefty wheel arches and two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels further elevate its machoness.

The rear of the model, on the other hand, comes equipped with LED taillights, a silver-colored rear bumper, a roof-mounted rear spoiler, and a tailgate-mounted spare tire carrier.

Other notable exterior features of the BAIC B60 Beaumont include the following:

    • Step boards
    • Fin type antenna
    • Roof rails
    • Chrome door mouldings
    • Rain-sensing wipers
    • Power-folding side mirrors with heating
    • Automatic headlamp functionality
    • Electronic headlamp levelling
    • Rear LED fog lamps

When it comes to dimensions, the full-size SUV is 5,040 millimeters (mm) long, 1,955 mm wide, and 1,925 mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,820 mm and a ground clearance of 215 mm.

    Spacious, cushy interior

To match its impressive exterior, the BAIC B60 Beaumont also has a well-arranged cabin brimming with creature comforts.

As mentioned, the model comes with a three-row seating arrangement with generous space for up to seven occupants. All of its seats are clad in leather, while the ones in the front get power-adjustability.

For the second row and the third row, those with a 60:40 and 50:50 split folding function, respectively. The second row likewise comes with a folding center armrest with cupholders.

For everyone inside the vehicle, cooling is ensured by a triple-zone automatic air-conditioning system with rear vents for each row. Mood during daily travels, meanwhile, is kept light and relaxing thanks to a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting system.

Specific to the driver of the B60 Beaumont is a leather-wrapped tilt and telescopic steering wheel, a push-to-start button, and a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster. Everyone inside, on the other hand, is kept entertained by a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen linked to a 13-piece Infinity speaker set.

For connectivity, the central screen comes with smartphone mirroring software, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports. Topping up devices inside the ride is likewise done via wireless charging pad, Type-C USB ports, three 12-volt charging ports (for each row), and 220-volt charging ports (trunk, second row).

Other noteworthy creature comforts available to the model include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Digital video recorder (dashcam)
    • Drive mode selector
    • Electronic parking brake
    • Electronic gear shifter
    • Push-to-start button
    • Steering wheel heating function

    Loads of safety gear

As a premium full-size SUV, the BAIC B60 Beaumont comes standard with a comprehensive safety kit.

For its basic safety features, it has six airbags, anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist with wire-controlled system, traction control, hill-start assist, hill descent control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, 360-degree view camera, tire pressure monitoring, and an anti-theft system.

The aforementioned are supported by a suite of advanced driver-assist systems, which include:

    • Adaptive cruise control
    • Traffic jam assist
    • Intelligent high beam control
    • Lane departure warning
    • Lane change assist
    • Lane keep assist
    • Forward collision warning
    • Autonomous emergency braking
    • Rear-cross traffic warning
    • Door opening warning
    • Traffic sign recognition

    Beefy diesel engine

Like any big and burly SUV nameplate available locally, the BAIC B60 Beaumont utilizes a beefy engine combined with a 4x4 system.

Specifically, the BAIC-made three-row model has a 2.0-liter turbodiesel hybrid mill capable of producing up to 161 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters of torque. It might not be as powerful as the engines of the Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol, but its hybrid system is touted to provide better efficiency - which is always a plus.

Additionally, the B60 comes with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission with a tip-tronic manual mode, as well as several drive modes. The aforementioned includes economy, comfort, sport, snow, mud, sand, rock, and wading.

Stopping power for the model is handled by front and rear discs. Ride quality and stability, meanwhile, are provided by a front double wishbone suspension system and a rear multi-link suspension system.

    Cons

    No powertailgate

One clear weakness of the BAIC B60 Beaumont is the absence of a power tailgate. Sure, the said weakness has been addressed on the electrified B60e Beaumont rEV, but those opting for the diesel-only model will have to contend with a large and heavy tailgate to access the trunk.

    Final thoughts

With a price of P2.898 million, the BAIC B60 Beaumont significantly undercuts its similarly sized SUV competitors. Sure, it doesn’t have the most powerful engine in the segment, but it is more than a match against its closest competitors when it comes to safety gear, exterior styling, and creature comforts.

In addition to the aforementioned, the full-size B60 Beaumont is one of the few full-size SUV models recognized by the Department of Energy as exempt from the Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the number coding scheme. The said bonus, of course, means having the ability to ride the B60 Beaumont whenever and wherever you like.

If you’re the type who likes what they see in the BAIC B60 Beaumont, we urge you to visit the nearest BAIC dealership and give the ride a test drive. Who knows, this full-size ride might just be the right car you’re looking for.
