2020 Honda Accord Turbo - What to expect?

The tenth-generation Honda Accord has been launched in Thailand earlier this year. And it was just a matter of time before it reached the Philippines. Although we don’t have an exact date as to when Honda Philippines would actually launch the 2020 Accord, we can assure you that it is going to happen pretty soon. So, what are thing things that you should expect to see in the new 2020 Honda Accord? Let’s find out, shall we?

Looks and Styling

The new Accord would be very much inspired by the latest Honda Civic. For example, its front end would get the ‘Solid Wing Face’ design which we have seen in the Civic. And to be honest, it isn’t that different from that of the current model of the Accord. Honda Philippines would also add a revised front bumper to make things sportier than before. And of course, the thick front grille would also find its way.

Moving to the side, there would be a set of very attractive alloy wheels and some sporty side skirting as well. The sloping roofline of the Accord gives it a coupe-like appearance. And the rear end would get new set of C-shaped tail lamps. For some reason, we find the Accord to be more mature and business-like from the rear. Don’t you feel the same?

Interior and cabin

Apart from its low-slung stance and attractive looks, the Accord is also known for its luxurious and comfortable cabin. And that is exactly what we are expecting to find inside of the 2020 Honda Accord, and perhaps, even more. It is quite likely that there is going to be brown leather seats which would provide a great contrasting effect when we bring the remaining black interior into the picture. This is a really nice touch. The comfort and support of these seats would be perfect.

Other features that we are expecting to be there in the new Accord include 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls for audio and cruise control, seamless dashboard design, soft-touch materials, floating touch screen display with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, etc., ventilated seats, automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging, engine push start/stop button, electronic parking brake, heads-up display, sunroof, and much more.

Powertrain

It is quite obvious that we don’t have any official 2020 Honda Accord specs because Honda hasn’t released it yet for the Philippines. However, we do know what the Thailand-variant is all about and chances are that we would get a similar variant in our country as well. So this means that we are expecting to have a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine which would produce around 187 bhp of max power and 243 Nm of peak torque. There is also a 2.0-litre i-VTEC hybrid engine with two electric motors which has a total power output of 212 hp. However, we don’t think it is going to be made available in the Philippines. Regarding the gearbox, it would be Honda’s Earth Dreams-developed CVT unit.

Safety equipment

Honda is one of those brands which don’t usually cut down on the safety features of its cars. And the new Accord would be getting all the necessary and advanced safety nets that you’d expect a modern mid-size sedan to have. So, safety features like an automatic high beam, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, road departure warning, multi-view camera system, cross-traffic monitor, driver attention monitor, Honda’s Smart Parking Assist System and LaneWatch feature and much more fall under Honda Sensing Safety Suite which should be standard across all the variants of the 2020 Accord. Apart from these features, we would also be getting ABS with EBD, various airbags, traction control, stability control, hill start assist, and whatnot.

The current Accord retails at a price of Php 1.94 million. Therefore, it is pretty much clear that the 2020 Honda Accord price is going to be higher than that. By how much? We don’t know that yet but we are hoping to find it out pretty soon.
