2020 Honda Civic Type R unveiled at Tokyo Auto Salon

MANILA: Honda has been busy updating its existing models from some time now. While the Japanese automaker had already released the revisited Civic and the Civic Si, it has now brought out the revamped Civic Type R. And, the much-improved sedan has appeared at nowhere else but the Tokyo Auto Salon 2020. Speaking of changes, the refreshed 2020 Honda Civic Type R has arrived vaunting both visual updates and mechanical improvements. Nevertheless, the automaker has emphasised the most on enhancing the aerodynamics of the sedan.

Starting with the visual and tangible changes, the 2020 Honda Civic Type R flaunts a wider than before front grille that improves engine cooling and a brand-new exclusive for the sedan Boost Blue finish. On the inside, the sedan features a fresh Alcantara™-wrapped steering wheel alongside a brand-new gear shifter sporting a restyled knob and shorter shift throws.

As for the mechanical updates, further enhancing the performance quotient of the 2020 Honda Civic are new two-piece brake rotors and new brake pads which lessen the fade and, as a result, provide the driver with better high-speed braking effectiveness.

Moreover, while the updated dampers and harder rear bushings offer better ride comfort and better grip, the revamped front suspension, on the flip side, is responsible for diminished friction and a refined handling character. Under the hood of the 2020 Honda Civic Type R resides a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged & direct-injected motor with VTEC™ valvetrain churning out 306 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox. Courtesy of the various drive modes, namely Comfort, Sport, and +R, the updated Civic Type is going to be a true all-rounder that can perform equally well on city roads as well as the race track.

The 2020 Honda Civic Type R is also much safer thanks to the arrival of the Honda Sensing® safety and driver-assistive technology to the sedan. The US-spec performance sedan will go on sale later this year.
