ACMobility confirms BYD Sealion 5 DM-i arrival

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines has confirmed the arrival of the Sealion 5 DM-i to the local market.

According to the ACMobility-led automotive distributor, it will officially launch the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i  on June 20, 2025 at the BYD Tech Tour in Alabang Town Center.

In a statement, BYD Cars Philippines expressed readiness for the retail of the aforementioned model as several units of the subcompact sport utility vehicle have already reached the Philippine soil. The company has also started accepting pre-orders for it too.

“We are staying true to our commitment to deliver exciting vehicles that cater to the varied needs of Filipino audiences. Our best-selling BYD Sealion 6 DM-i laid the groundwork for electrified mobility free from range anxiety. Now we are set to introduce the Sealion 5, another DM-i SUV that’s easier to own but is just as rich in value,” BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Bob Palanca said.

“This new model is the gateway into the world of BYD’s intelligent electric mobility. It's a smart, stylish, and safe vehicle designed for drivers who expect innovation and everyday usability in one package,” he added.

While the company has yet to share details about the model, here are some bits of information as seen in the recently-published homologation papers from the Land Transportation Office.

Vehicle specifications

As seen on the LTO records, the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i has the following measurements:

Powering the five-seater wagon is a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor that gives the vehicle a maximum speed of 170 kilometers per hour.

Its powertrain is matched to a lithium-ion phosphate battery and will likely  come in two variants namely:

• Premium
• Dynamic

Other facts — which include pricing — are expected to be revealed closer to launch date.
