All-new BMW 4 Series Coupe now bigger, more athletic

MANILA: The all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé gets a sportier and more exceptional appeal, and is scheduled to launched globally in October this year.

The general concept behind the two-door vehicle, in terms of its custom-made design features, model-specific chassis tuning, dimensions, and the use of mild hybrid technology, exhibits an arduous dedication to a dynamic driving experience. The all-new BMW 4 Series Coupe is also the first BMW to be available with the M Sport Pro Package.

The emphasis on engaging driving experience sets a clear borderline between the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupe and the latest BMW 3 Series Sedan. It also provides the BMW 4 Series with a sharper feature and larger exterior proportions compared to its predecessor.

The exterior design is marked with an exceptional combination of dynamism and elegance. The BMW 4 Series Coupe features fewer crisp lines and the utilization of clear surfaces that make up the body design, which exhibits untainted driving pleasure at all angles. The length of the new model went up by 128mm to 4,768mm while the vehicle height increased by only 6mm (now 1,383mm), making the vehicle 57mm lower compared to the new BMW 3 Series Sedan. Its width went up by 27mm to 1,852mm and the wheelbase by 41mm to 2,851mm.

The all-new BMW M440i xDrive Coupe utilizes mild hybrid technology, similar to the diesel models. Fitting a second battery and a power 48V starter-generator enables more brake energy to be stored and regenerated. The energy is utilized not only for electrical system supply, but also for reducing the workload of the combustion engine and increasing its power.

The starter-generator creates an electric boost effect that immediately puts an additional 11hp for more active overtaking or speeding off the line. Moreover, the powerful starter-generator also improves efficiency through engine assistance while driving at a steady speed and enhances comfort when the coasting controls and auto start stop are being used.

Aside from the 374hp straight-six engine under the bonnet of the leading model, there are additional options through two four-cylinder petrol units, producing an output of 258hp in the new BMW 430i Coupe and 184hp in the new BMW 420i Coupe.

A 190hp four-cylinder diesel engine powers the BMW 420d xDrive Coupe and the BMW 420d Coupe. This specific unit similar to the straight-six engine in the BMW 430d xDrive Coupe has a two-stage turbocharging system. The BMW M440d xDrive Coupe also merges two turbochargers of distinct sizes to generate exceptional power. All of these models conform with the Euro 6d emissions standard.

It is the first time that all variants in the BMW 4 Series Coupe lineup feature an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, which is regarded as a standard for all model variants, with the option of a new Sprint function and shift paddles. The current version of the automatic transmission performs its task of delivering drive torque from the engine with greater efficiency and maximum shift characteristics.

A significantly wider selection of driver assistance systems as compared to the predecessor of the BMW 4 Series Coupe enables enhanced safety in scenarios where the driver is not required to have a clear view. The driver assistance systems include front collision warning with brake intervention, speed limit info system, and lane departure warning with lane return (steering assistance) as standard.

The driver assistance systems also involve the optional driving assistant professional, which includes the steering and lane control assistant with new active navigation. The latter utilizes navigation data to perceive any significant lane changes.

The optional parking assistant includes the reversing assistant, while the parking assistant plus has the BMW Drive Recorder that allows the shooting of videos of the surrounding areas of the vehicle up to a maximum of 40 seconds.
