Audi Q2, Another Crossover in Making

MANILA: It's not a hidden fact that the Sport Utility Vehicles are high on demand and so is the smaller sibling, the crossover. This fact further gets rectified from the fact that in addition to economic brands, even the luxury brands are taking a hell lot of interest in the said segment.Adding to the already stuffed crossover market, is the new Audi Q2, recently seen testing around in Nurburgring.

Though, the newest member soon to enter the SUV fleet was all covered in a thick camouflaged sheet, it still look as a smaller version of the existing Audi Q7. The car would be fourth in line to the already existing Q family and is expected to take some hints from the elderly, both in terms of styling and performance. So, we can expect the modular MQB platform underneath with both three and four-cylinder turbo engines powering this mean machine.

In styling, the car looked like a typical crossover with an extended bonnet and popped-out rear. But the actual design language will be revealed only at a later stage when the car will be nearer to its production stage. Tagged as the cheapest Q line-up ever, four-wheel drive will come standard and the Audi Quattro all-wheel drive system will likely to be available at an extra cost.

The future also holds a sport-focused SQ2 model that is expected to generate power from a 2.0L 4-CYL, twin-turbodiesel mill, with power figures reading as 231 PS. In addition to the sports variant, there will be an RS model that will carry a 2.0L TSI engine, producing an estimated power output of 300 PS.

Sources close to the brand also hint towards a hybrid version under-making that will accompany the recently launched Audi A3 e-tron concept at the IAA. As for the standard version, it will grace the world next year at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The car is expected to be priced around PhP 13,083,400, so the interested ones should start saving.
