AVID sales surge by 59% in first 5 months of 2021

MANILA: The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. (AVID) recorded 59% growth in year-to-date (YTD) sales in the first five months of the year, with 25,217 units sold from January to May 2021 versus the 15,811 units sold in the same period last year.

In May alone, AVID recorded a 293% sales spike, from 1,239 units sold in the same month in 2020 to 4,864 units in May 2021. Month-to-month, sales increased by 8% from 4,864 units sold in April to 4,496 units in May.

The commercial vehicles (CV) segment achieved a whopping 625% increase in YTD sales. This was led by Hyundai, which moved a total of 731 units.

In the passenger cars (PC) segment, AVID recorded a 29% rise in YTD sales with 6,357 units sold versus 4,928 units in the same period in 2020. In May 2021, the segment moved a total of 1,029 units, which is almost quadruple the 354 units sold in May 2020.

The gradual re-opening of the economy and eased community quarantine restrictions potentially contributed on the massive sales hike. Suzuki spearheaded the PC segment with a total of 3,259 units sold. It was followed by Hyundai, which moved a total of 2,170 units.

The light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment showed a 68% rise in YTD sales, from last year’s 10,782 units to the 18,128 units sold in the first five months of 2021. Ford led the segment with 7,692 units sold. Suzuki took second spot with 4,933 units. It was followed by Hyundai with 2,450 units sold.

In a statement, AVID President Ma. We all must keep on pitching in to weather this storm and to bring us all closer to our dreams in the new normal.”
