KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is the main inspiration for Bentley’s latest concept car?
Bentley’s latest concept car was inspired by the 1930 Speed Six Gurney Nutting Sportsman Coupe, also known as the “Blue Train.”When is Bentley planning to launch its first-ever all-electric sedan?
Bentley will be launching its first-ever all-electric sedan in 2026.According to Bentley, the new concept is a design study representing its desire to transform something that was inspired by its storied past into a modern product. Specifically, the designers of the EXP 15 drew inspiration from the “Blue Train” - the three-seater 1930 Bentley Speed Six Gurney Nutting Sportsman Coupe.
The result is a five-meter-long full-size sedan with a prominent upright front grille, a very long bonnet, and a swooping bodyline terminating into a fastback-like rear end.
Interestingly, the concept car features three doors, but like the two-door Blue Train, its interior accommodates seating for three, providing a dedicated storage space ideal for pet carriers or luggage. Basically, the concept has two rear seats and one front seat. The space in between its said seats is marked by a structure made up of a singular piece. The aforementioned makes up the elongated center console and the dashboard.
According to the luxury car brand, the entire cabin of the concept car adheres to the “Bold Gravitas” philosophy, ensuring that all luxury materials are visible and accessible to touch by the vehicle’s occupants.
Types of materials utilized to enhance the EXP 15’s cabin include wood, metal, and stone. At the same time, the cockpit of the concept car feels like a traditional Bentley. It features the brand’s signature “bullseye” air conditioning vents, diamond-quilted seats, and a knurled switchgear.
The said design elements, of course, are likewise present on other Bentley models such as:
In addition to its handsome appearance, the Bentley EXP 15's cockpit also features the brand’s “rotating dashboard” design, which can hide or reveal an infotainment screen encompassing the entire length of the dash.
On the one hand, the luxury British carmaker still made care to include physical switches all around.
“We think people are going to get fed up with a fully digital experience and are pining for physical mechanical elements too,” Bentley Director of Design Robin Page said.
“By combining the two, you can get the best of both worlds. It’s almost like wearing a beautiful mechanical watch on one wrist and a digital watch on the other. Imagine the magical experience you would get if mechanical and digital are overlaid together,” Page added.
Otherwise, the Bentley EXP 15 is far from lacking in technology. Apart from its large screens mentioned above, the brand also hinted at its special Pallas Gold paint job that was specifically designed to be detectable by Lidar systems.
As mentioned, the concept is also propelled by an all-electric powertrain. Its motor is paired with an all-wheel-drive system and fast charging capabilities. No specifications were mentioned for the EXP 15, but we can expect more details for Bentley’s new all-electric propulsion system once it introduces its first-ever EV production model in 2026.
To note, Bentley stated that the EXP 15 isn’t a direct preview of the upcoming Bentley EV. The exterior and interior of the production model, however, will have subtle design and engineering cues linked to the new concept vehicle.
