BMW debuts all-new iX3 under Neue Klasse lineup

MANILA: BMW has officially debuted the all-new iX3 as its first-ever entry into its Neue Klasse lineup. 

The model, which the German brand calls a sport activity vehicle (SAV), utilizes the Neue Klasse electric vehicle platform, which means it is no longer based on the BMW X3 internal combustion model, unlike its G08 predecessor. 

In addition, BMW executives, through a documentary video series on YouTube, have described the car as a milestone for the brand. 

BMW Group Head of Neue Klasse Mike Reichelt pointed out that the company’s foray into the new vehicle lineup is “beyond anything we had done before.” The BMW Group chief executive officer also called the Neue Klasse a “fundamental reset” for the car company. 

So, what is the all-new BMW iX3 offering to prospective adopters?

Powertrain

As of its debut at the 2025 IAA Mobility Show, the iX3 was introduced as the 50 xDrive variant, which is equipped with a pair of electric motors and a 108.7-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. At maximum, the said system can send up to 469 horsepower (hp) and 645 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque to all four wheels. It also has a cruising range of 805 kilometers (km), according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). 

Thanks to its maximum power output, the BMW iX3 is capable of sprinting from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 4.9 seconds. It also has an estimated top speed of 210 kph, according to the Munich-based car brand. 

With regard to charging, the BMW iX3’s new electric vehicle (EV) platform has a maximum charging rate of 400 kilowatts (kW). So at an 800-volt EV charging station, the model is capable of adding up to 372 km of range in just 10 minutes. 

Moreover, the all-new Neue Klass model is equipped with four advanced computers, which BMW has called its “superbrains.” The said control units are responsible for all vehicle functions, including the drivetrain, brakes, energy recuperation systems, and steering subfunctions.

The said superbrains also work together with the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software, which ensures optimal traction and handling depending on a variety of driving situations and road conditions.

Exterior

Design-wise, the BMW iX3 comes with a sharp sport utility vehicle (SUV) body combined with callbacks to the brand’s old cars. Its kidney grille, for example, is highly reminiscent of the “old” 1960s Neue Klasse lineup, such as the BMW 1500 and 1600 nameplates. And of course, it also has the Hofmeister kink on its rearmost window pillar. 

The aforementioned are complemented by a sharp-looking lower front bumper, square-shaped wheel arches, flush door handles, roof spoiler, rear diffuser, a power tailgate, and LED exterior lighting fixtures. Completing the look of the vehicle is a set of 20 to 22-inch wheels, with some boasting aerodynamic designs and weight optimization.

Interior

Inside, the BMW iX3 features the “Panoramic iDrive System,” and it is the first-ever model from the Munich-based brand to do so. 

Components of the said system include a 43.3-inch BMW Panoramic Vision display that stretches the entire width of the car’s dashboard. It supplants the need for a bulky digital guage as it can provide relevant driving information and in-vehicle parameters without having the need to scroll through multiple pages. 

Working in tandem with the Panoramic Vision display is a central 17.9-inch infotainment system underpinned by the BMW Operating System X. It handles most in-vehicle functions (including the automatic climate control system), and it also has smartphone connectivity, as well as integration with the MyBMW smartphone app. 

Other software available to the iX3 includes Zoom video calling app, Spotify, the AirConsole in-car gaming system, and Disney+ - among others. Sound, meanwhile, is fed into the car’s cabin by a 13-piece Harman Kardon HiFi system. 

Other interior features of the BMW iX3 include:

• Power-adjust front seats
• Wireless smartphone charging
• Recycled interior materials

With regard to space, the model can comfortably seat up to five occupants. It also has a trunk with a default space of 861 liters, which can be stretched to 1,841 liters with the rear seats folded down.

Safety

For now, BMW hasn’t provided an extensive list of the iX3’s safety gear, but it has been shared that it is equipped with the “Symbiotic Drive” - a driver assistance suite powered by artificial intelligence (AI). 

Per the brand, the aforementioned is capable of lane control assistance, traffic light detection, and some degree of autonomous highway driving via the BMW motorway assistant. 

Availability

For now, no pricing details for the BMW iX3 were shared by BMW, but it will go on sale in Europe and the United States sometime in 2026. Interestingly, BMW will also produce the model in its plant in Shenyang, China, next year.
