Foton proactively supports PUV Modernisation Program
MANILA: Foton has been one of the most active and emerging automakers in the Philippine of late. Despite the decline in the sales figures in 2018, the automaker managed to grow and grab higher spots in the best performing automaker’s list for 2018. At the recently concluded 2019 Land Transportation Office Motor Show, which was organised from May 21 to 24 earlier this month,
Foton displayed three vehicles and showed its support and participation in the PUV Modernisation Program. The automaker believes that these vehicles will not only enhance the Public Utility Vehicle Program but also provide the Filipinos with a ride full of convenience free of trouble.
Rommel Sytin, who is the president of Foton Philippines said, “The launch of our commuter vehicles is a substantial effort to move the Philippines toward an efficient transportation network that is in line with the standards of our government, commuters, and environment.
Our main mission is to improve basic infrastructure and provide public transportation services to drive economic and social development, to enhance the Filipino livelihoods and sustainability, and to increase the country’s ability to compete”.
Talking about the Foton vehicles that were present at the event, the first vehicle was the F-Jeep. It is based on the Tornado 2.4C and comes with a body designed by the Centro Manufacturing Corporation and possesses to accommodate 24 passengers (16 seated, 8 standing) at once.
The F-Jeep is powered by a Euro-4 compliant 2.8-litre Cummins turbo-diesel motor that produces 116 PS at 3,200 rpm and 260 Nm from 1,300 to 3,200 rpm. Transmission here is a five-speed manual unit. It also gets convenience features like GPS navigation, CCTV camera, side-facing bench seats, dashcam, Wi-Fi connectivity, air-conditioner.
Then there is the smaller Gratour TM MPV that can accommodate 14 passengers. The MPV gets its power from a 1.5-litre inline-four that makes 110 PS and 142 Nm. The gasoline-fed engine is coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. Moreover, you can also fold the side-facing benches and use the MPV as a goods carrier as the Gratour TM MPV has a payload capacity of 1,455 kg.
At last, we have the Foton Transvan HR that comes with a high-roof and can hold 16 passengers. The power comes from a 2.8-litre 4JB1 turbo-diesel and the van gets comfort and convenience features like an entertainment system, dual air-conditioning, and power windows and door locks. With Foton participating proactively in the PUV Modernisation Program, the future of public transportation certainly looks promising.
