GAC Honda GT, Dongfeng Honda GT showcased at Auto Shanghai 2025

MANILA: Honda has presented two new cars at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2025). Both are part of the brand’s Ye Series, and are dubbed the GAC Honda GT and the Dongfeng Honda GT. 

Per the Japanese car maker, the two models were produced in collaboration with two China-based car manufacturers, specifically Guangzhou Automobile Group Corporation Limited and Dongfeng Motor Corporation Limited. 

No specifications for the two have been disclosed yet, but Honda said they are both all-electric cars developed with the “goal of offering customers a new sensation of driving pleasure.”

Inside, the two China-spec nameplates show Honda, GAC, and Dongfeng’s forward direction in terms of technology. Each car was fitted with numerous screens, including a pair that function as digital side mirrors, a sizable central display, a vertical control panel on the center console, and a digital gauge cluster. 

On the outside, both GT nameplates come in the form of four-door sedans, but with slightly different design details. 

Per Honda, the one made in partnership with GAC comes with a very aggressive-looking lower bumper topped by a pair of intricate-looking LED lighting fixtures. The GT model, developed in partnership with Dongfeng, meanwhile, sports Y-shaped headlamps. Both cars also come with sharp-nosed front fascias, black-colored bonnets, and fastback-like rear ends. 

The brand didn’t say when it will start selling the GAC Honda GT and Dongfeng Honda GT in China. Regardless, more details may come out once the two rides hit the said market. 

Honda's future plans for China

Apart from debuting the two GT models mentioned above, Honda also bared its future direction for the Chinese market. 

For starters, the car company will leverage technologies from China-based entities such as Momenta Global Limited (Momenta), Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Basic Technology Research Corporation Limited (DeepSeek), and Contemporary Amperex Technology Corporation Limited (CATL). 

In doing so, the carmaker claims that it will gain an edge in meeting the demands of Chinese car buyers. 

With Momenta, Honda is developing next-generation advanced driver-assist systems that are powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The Japanese car company is also working with AI-specialist DeepSeek for AI-driven in-car creature comforts. 

Lastly, Honda and CATL are set to co-develop a lithium-ion phosphate battery for future Ye Series models.
