GAC says Aion UT is now world’s fastest-growing Chinese EV hatch

MANILA: GAC has claimed that the Aion UT is now the world’s fastest-growing Chinese-branded electric hatchback. In fact, it already saw global sales of 3,331 units in May 2026 alone, representing a 60 percent month-on-month increase.

To support this claim, the brand also noted the model’s popularity in markets such as Thailand, Australia, Latin America, and Europe. 

Likewise highlighted by the marque were the Aion UT’s many accolades, which include “The Most Valuable EV Award” at the Bangkok International Motor Show, the “Best Compact Electric Vehicle Award” in Mexico, and the “Best Subcompact Hatchback 5 Dr. EV” from the Thailand Car of the Year 2026 awards. 

As the brand shared further, the Aion UT’s popularity is mainly attributed to its design, which was penned by the brand’s Milan Design Center. Key elements of the vehicle’s appearance are its “Digital Magic Cube” aesthetics, which are highlighted by a fastback-like silhouette. 

On the other hand, the small vehicle is touted as providing “Big Car Energy” through its lounge-like interior and class-leading wheelbase of 2,750 millimeters (mm). 

Notably, the GAC Aion UT is now available in the Philippine market. It was introduced with a suggested price of P1.068 million, thus promising accessibility for a variety of would-be adopters.

“This milestone allows us to further serve and diversify our brand offerings in the local mobility scene. We are confident that the Aion UT will bolster dynamic, safe, and sustainable driving for Filipinos this 2026,” Wang added.

GAC Aion UT: PH market specs

For the Philippine market, the GAC Aion UT uses a single electric motor that can produce up to 134 horsepower and 145 Newton-meters of torque. The said motor is paired with a 44.12 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery that provides a range of 400 kilometers, according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). 

Topping up the GAC Aion UT can be done quick via a direct current (DC) port, but it also has an alternating current (AC) port. When using the DC port, the model can increase its state-of-charge from 30 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes. 

Some notable interior features of the GAC Aion UT include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS)
• 8.88-inch digital gauge
• Electronic parking brake with auto hold
• Leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel
• Front cabin armrest
• Automatic air-conditioning system
• 14.6-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Six-piece speaker set
