Geely Monjaro EM-i crosses Egypt’s Black, White Deserts, Guinness World Record style

MANILA: The Philippine-bound Geely Monjaro EM-i recently set a Guinness World Record for the fastest crossing of Egypt’s Black and White Deserts.

In a statement, the Chinese automaker’s local subsidiary shared that the nameplate established a new Guinness World Record for the “Fastest crossing of Egypt’s Black and White Deserts in the Sahara by a plug-in hybrid powered production SUV,” completing a 188.6-kilometer run through one of the world’s most demanding driving environments.

Overcoming challenges

Aside from the record-setting drive, the Monjaro EM-i underwent five professional capability challenges:

• Extreme handling and stability

• Repeated steep-slope climbs

• Cross-axle recovery

• Rough-terrain ride comfort

• Acceleration at a low state of charge

To note, the vehicle is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a Super Hybrid System and an intelligent electric all-wheel-drive configuration, delivering the following outputs:

Combined, the Geely Monjaro EM-i can produce approximately 410 hp and 723 Nm of torque.

The model further features four drive modes — Pure, Hybrid, Power, and Snow — as well as two terrain modes, Off-road and Sand. These are supported by its electric all-wheel-drive system, continuous damping control suspension, and intelligent power-management system to ensure responsive performance even under harsh conditions.

Last July, the model’s specifications were already included in the Department of Energy’s list of recognized electrified models in the Philippines.
