Getting a Driver's License Becomes Tougher, Only For Good

MANILA: Starting this November, getting a driver's license will be no more a piece of cake. The Land Transportation Office has announced its future plans in the wake of the depreciating driving quality around the country. So, guys prep-up as now getting/renewing your paper driving companion will be tougher. But if you have always been an in-line driver, following all rules and regulations by heart then you'll be surely awarded under this new plan.

In addition, to ensure fitness and capabilities of the driver, the new regime will also ensure convenience of the whole license getting process. So, now we can hope few hours and less sweat loss in this card gaining process. Jun Abaya, Secretary Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said, “The revised rules will ensure the fitness and capability of license card holders to drive on the country’s streets. They will also streamline the application process and make it more convenient for the public.”

As we all know LTO generates four types of licenses and now getting one will require a cleaner driving regime.

• Professional Driver's License
• Non-Professional Driver's License
• Student Permit
• Conductor's License

Rules under the new license regime-

• Firstly, now you will be required to take in regard the newly published Administrative Orders.
• Secondly, now you will be required to have a 6 month SP, before applying for a PDLs (light vehicles).
• Thirdly, those in need of a PDL for heavy vehicles, are now required to have either a 1 year NPDL or a six-month PDL (light vehicles).
• Good news, PDL and NPDL license holder with a clean record for straight 3 years, upon renewal, will now get a 5-year valid license period.
• Bad news, those found guilty with two or more critical issues will face a license disqualification.
• Medical fitness record, now LTO is open to any licensed and practicing physician medical certificate, instead of the accredited doctor of LTO.
• Examination trouble, no more lectures or seminars before the exam. So, come all prepared.
