Is PH ready for Toyota’s fully electric pickup truck?
Hilux BEV now part of DOE list
MANILA: The Philippines will soon have the Toyota Hilux’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) version.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What powers the Toyota Hilux BEV?
It is powered by two electric motors. How much power can it make?
It generates about 170 horsepower.Recently, the Department of Energy (DOE) included the Hilux BEV in its list of recognized electrified models for the Philippines.
This development came after Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) disclosed to Zigwheels Philippines in 2025 that it would bring the ninth-generation version in the country.
The said model was also part of the upcoming lineup that the leading local automotive distributor is set to unveil within the year (possibly at this year’s Philippine International Motor Show).

Its imminent entry in the Philippines will heat up the electrified pickup truck segment currently manned by the BYD Shark 6 DM-O and the Changan Nevo Hunter K50 (both of which have internal combustion engines and electric motor components), as well as the Radar RD6 ECON (which is fully battery-powered).
Vehicle specifications
So, while waiting for TMP to reveal the specifics, here are some details about the Toyota Hilux BEV as seen in the DOE list.
Expected to be the nameplate’s top-of-the-line trim, the Toyota Hilux BEV will bepowered by two electric motors (in a dual eAxle configuration) and will feature a 4x4 setup. The powertrain has the capacity to produce a maximum of 170 horsepower.
Additionally, the mill is paired with a 59.2 kilowatt-hour battery.
The said model has the following measurements:
|
Overall dimensions (length, width, height; in millimeters [mm>) |
5,320 x 1,855 x 1,845 |
|
Gross vehicle weight (in kilograms) |
3,170 |
While the DOE still named the full-electric model as the Toyota Hilux BEV, we still believe that the BEV model will likely be called the Travo (the pickup truck’s name in Thailand) to give it more distinct persona compared to its internal combustion engine counterpart.

Also this has been the trend that TMP has been following since it introduced the Ativ, Veloz, and Zenix.
With the price of diesel skyrocketing due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, it may be the proper time for TMP to introduce the full-electric Hilux to the local market.
However, the bigger question is: how much will it be retailed? In the Land of Smiles, the model is being sold for less than P2.5 million.
Since we are waiting for the arrival of the ninth-generation Toyota Hilux, here is a quick check at the outgoing version's top-of-the-line trim.
