Kia brings out all-new EV2

MANILA: Kia has debuted the all-new EV2 at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show. 

In a nutshell, the Kia EV2 is a subcompact all-electric crossover designed to provide practicality and versatility for the urban dweller. The aforementioned is demonstrated by its relatively small size, which is ideal on in-city thoroughfares, a peppy powertrain, a reasonable amount of cruising range, and an abundance of interior space.

 “With the Kia EV2, we are expanding the reach of Kia’s electric mobility to customers who want a compact car that still feels spacious, capable, and emotionally rewarding,” President and Chief Executive Officer of Kia Ho Sung Song said. 

“EV2 reflects our commitment to practical innovation - bringing advanced EV technology, thoughtful design, and everyday usability into a model created for the way people live and move in cities around the world,” Sung added.

Kia EV2: vehicle specs, features

When it comes to powertrains, the Kia EV2 is available with a single-motor setup that’s capable of putting out up to 144 horsepower. It also has an estimated range of up to 448 kilometers and a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. 

Ride quality for the model is ensured by a front MacPherson strut and rear coupled torsion beam axle suspension system. Handling and smooth power delivery are also provided by a high-output column-mounted motor-driven power steering system and a shift-by-wire system, respectively. 

For extra convenience and ease-of-use, the EV2 was equipped with a direct current (DC) fast charging port that’s able to increase its state-of-charge in just 29 minutes. The model also has an alternate current (AC) charging mode, regenerative braking, and a vehicle-to-load function. 

Appearance-wise, the newly introduced EV2 wears a sport utility vehicle-like body decorated with chunky wheel arches, sharply hewn character lines, and an array of sharp-looking LED fixtures, which includes Kia’s latest Star Map signature. 

The side portion of the model, Kia says, offers a “confident silhouette,” mainly due to its solid fender design and geometric-style 16-19-inch wheels. 

For further road presence, the top-spec GT-Line comes with exclusive front and rear bumpers, body-colored garnishes, additional side sill details, and a unique set of wheels.

Inside the Kia EV2 is a five-seater (or four-seater) layout that’s described by Kia as a “Picnic Box.” As hinted by the name, it is a cozy personal space touted to offer a serene atmosphere that’s shielded from the chaos of the city. 

For starters, the model’s dashboard is dominated by a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a similarly-sized digital gauge cluster. The two displays are seamlessly linked together to form a pseudo “widescreen,” which is said to enhance visual width. 

Linked to the crossover’s main display is a Harman Kardon sound system. Likewise present in the model is the Kia artificial intelligence (AI) assistance, the Digital Key 2 for seamless access, as well as over-the-air software updates. 

Concerning comfort and convenience, the EV2 has fabric-clad seats, an ambient lighting system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, adjustable cup holders, sliding second row seats, a center-console storage space, and reclining seat backrests. 

The driver of the vehicle, on the other hand, has access to a column-type shifter, electronic parking brake, and an electric vehicle (EV) route planner function. 

Safety-wise, the Kia EV2 was given a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assist systems, which include the following: 

• Forward collision avoidance
• Blind-spot collision-avoidance
• Lane keep assist
• Smart cruise control
• Rear-cross traffic avoidance
• Surround view monitor
• Safe exit warning
• Parking collision avoidance
• Blind-spot monitor
• Driver attention warning

Availability

Kia will officially start production of the EV2 in the first quarter of 2026. Its long-range and GT Line variants will follow within the year. For now, no pricing details or destination regions for the model have been disclosed, but hopefully, it will include the Philippines in the near future.
