Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 to make track debut at 2023 Daytona 24 Hours

MANILA: The new Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, built by Squadra Corse of Sant'Agata Bolognese, is based on the Huracan STO, with which it shares key design aspects, rear-wheel drive, and a naturally aspirated V10 engine that produces 640 horsepower in the road version.

In comparison to the Huracan GT3 EVO, which was homologated in 2019 and is built on the Huracan EVO road car, the GT3 EVO2 fully adheres with the new FIA 2022 technical requirements and boasts all-new aerodynamic solutions and an intake system. Huracan STO inspired the hexagonal airscoop design and the rear fin, resulting in a more efficient intake system and improved car balance.

The airscoop is coupled to a snorkel, which replaces the side air intakes and sends airflow straight into the engine, resulting in increased response to the driver's needs. The addition of 10 electronically driven throttle bodies improves the efficiency of the V10 with titanium valves. The whole system, developed by Lamborghini Squadra Corse, is attached to the engine with only four screws, a solution originally seen on the Essenza SCV12 to make maintenance easier.

The bodywork is made entirely of carbon fiber and has a dynamic design developed in partnership with Lamborghini's Centro Stile. Aerodynamic efficiency is improved with the redesigned splitters, diffuser, and underbody. The new diffuser, combined with the carbon fiber floor covered with high-strength Zylon fiber, offers more downforce than the current generation GT3 EVO. Other improvements include the rear wing, which is placed on Ergal 7075 T6 aluminum alloy pillars inspired by the STO. In comparison to the EVO model, the new supports enable more precise wing adjustment.

The new carbon-Kevlar honeycomb side panels, which have already been tested on the Essenza SCV12, and the new roll cage with two rear pillars boost safety in the case of a collision on the doors, as required by the FIA 2022 regulations. For increased structural strength and dependability, the plexiglas side windows are now secured to the carbon fiber door panel with a ring of screws.

Squadra Corse created new calipers and pads for the braking system, which will improve performance in both endurance and sprint races. These features, in tandem with dedicated traction control (TCS) and anti-lock braking systems (ABS), have been designed to make the car easier to manage in low-grip circumstances, even for gentleman drivers. Customers will receive the car with Pirelli PZero tyres (325.680-18 front; 325/705-18 rear) from the long-time Squadra Corse partner.

In a statement, Lamborghini Motorsport Head Giorgio Sanna said, “The new Huracan GT3 EVO2 is not simply an evolution of the current car. It’s a new project that reinforces the technological transfer between Lamborghini’s motorsport division and the company and inherits two difficult tasks: to prove as successful as the previous generations of Huracan GT3, which have won more than 40 international titles in six seasons, and to match its commercial success by helping to reach the target of 500 Huracan racing cars since 2015.”

Deliveries will begin in the second half of 2022, and an evolution kit can be used to modify earlier Huracan GT3 EVO units to GT3 EVO2 specs. The GT3 EVO2 will make its track debut at the 2023 Daytona 24 Hours.
