Last Subaru Legacy rolls out in Indiana, USA

MANILA: Subaru has concluded the production run of the Legacy sedan. The last example of the nameplate’s seventh-generation version rolled out of the Subaru of Indiana (SIA) manufacturing plant, thus marking the end of its 36-year production run. 

Notably, the Subaru Legacy remained a North American market-only model in its final years. It was discontinued for the Japanese market in 2020 and for the Philippine market in 2022. During its stint, the said model managed to accumulate 1.4 million units in the US alone. As such, Subaru says that the closing of the Legacy’s chapter is a bittersweet milestone. 

"This is a bittersweet moment for our company and our associates,” said President and Chief Operating Officer of SIA Scott Brand. “While an important chapter in our history has been brought to a close, we’re already turning the page and starting a new one," Brand added.

On that note, the Japanese marque’s global direction is pointing towards crossovers. In that vein, SIA is likewise poised to cease the production of the Legacy-based Outback this coming October 2025. 

In fact, the SIA plant will be retooled to produce the new Forester in internal combustion and hybrid forms sometime in the second quarter of 2026. 

In the local market, the brand’s global direction is also reflected by Motor Image Group’s current lineup of Subaru models:

• Forester
• Crosstrek
• Outback
• Evoltis
• WRX
• WRX Wagon

In the Philippines, Subaru’s sole sedan offering is the WRX. It currently has a starting price of P2.788 million. 

The said model comes with the brand's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, paired with a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer-four engine capable of producing up to 271 horsepower and 350 Newton-meters of torque.
