Meet the world’s fastest SUV, Lamborghini Urus
MANILA: It’s been 5 years since the Lamborghini showcased the Urus in its concept form. And after years of teaser images, the Italian automaker has finally revealed the world’s fastest SUV at Lamborghini’s Sant Agata Bolognese headquarters. The 2019 Urus shares the platform of Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7 but, with a major difference in terms of styling and performance. The manufacturer is aiming to double its production with 7000 cars per year and this will be achieved with the new SUV in the company’s lineup.
The design of the 2019 Urus reflects the true characteristics of a Lamborghini with a two-thirds body and one-third window ratio. The sharp creases, deep cuts, and swooping roofline altogether reflects that the SUV is a mean machine. The wheel options ranging from 21 to 23 inches can be fitted with Pirelli all-season or winter tyres that plays an important role in improving the overall performance of the SUV.
What makes the Urus one of its kind is its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that has the potential to pump out a maximum power output of 650 hp at 6500 rpm and peak torque of 850 Nm between 2240 - 4500 rpm. This is the first turbocharged engine produced by Lamborghini which is coupled to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with power being transmitted to all four wheels. Hitting the 100 kmph mark from naught takes just 3.6 seconds while the Urus is capable of reaching a top speed of 305 kmph.
With Urus, Lamborghini has tried to put its attention on luxury over just performance, which is reflected through its cabin that features premium SUV elements. The dashboard has a Y-design which is oriented towards the driver. It also features hexagonal vents, cupholders while the three-spoke steering wheel comes with vibration damping feature. The customizable TFT driver information display and the latest infotainment system from Lamborghini also finds a spot in the cabin.
Comfort features include 12-way adjustable heated driver and front passenger seats as standard, with an option of an 18-way adjustable seat. The rear has either a three-seat bench with Isofix points or an optional two-seat configuration. The SUV also offers high practicality quotient with a boot space of 616-litre that can be further extended by folding the rear row.
Just like other Lamborghini’s the Urus name is also derived from bulls, which is an extinct wild ancestor of domestic cattle. The Urus will be first available in the U.S. market in Spring 2018 at a base price of $200,000 (Php 1,01,30000). The launch of Urus in the Philippines market is still not scheduled and we might see this raging SUV by the end of 2018.
