Mercedes-Benz G 500 4X42 Concept Confirmed for Production

MANILA: After receiving an overwhelming response on the showcase of the concept at the Geneva International Motor Show, the German automakers, Mercedes-Benz has finally confirmed the production of G 500 4x4². The brand says that basically this model is a four-wheel drive SUV that incorporates all the advantages of G-Series. Further, the model is described as the “model brother” of the G 63 AMG 6X6.

The German Car maker claims that with the wider track of the portal axles, 325/55 R22 tires and the adjustable damping in Sports mode gives the feel of a sports car rather than an SUV. As reported earlier, the SUV will be fitted with carbon fiber body panels, AMG front bumper, and twin side pipes. The vehicle will also carry mesh front grille, aggressive bumper and stainless-steel underbody protection. Adding to its wildness, are its water wading depth of 1000 mm, ground clearance of 450 mm and weight of 2996 kg.

The G 500 4X4² is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, the same unit found in the Mercedes-Benz C63 and AMG GT. The same engine delivers 428 PS of power and 610 Nm of torque. Moreover, Mercedes officials suggest that it would read 62 mph from the standstill in mere 6.5 seconds while sprint at the top speed of 130 mph.

While the left-hand drive appearance is sealed for this model, the brand officials say that there are no immediate plans for right-hand drive production of this SUV.
