MG PH unleashes TRQ-L pickup

MANILA: Morris Garages (MG) Philippines has launched the TRQ-L pickup. 

The new nameplate bolsters the company’s lineup and looks to attract Filipino car buyers who are looking for an affordable lifestyle truck. 

Here are its notable features: 

Powertrain, chassis 

Under the bonnet of the company’s first-ever pickup truck in the country is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces some 158 horses and 400 Newton-meters of pulling power. 

The said diesel mill can be mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission. 

Braking power comes from disc brakes all around while suspension is made up of a double wishbone setup at the front and a leaf spring arrangement at the rear.

Exterior 

Outside, the MG TRQ-L dons a relatively aggressive exterior with its fore sporting leaning heavily on sharp angles. 

The rectangular grille is bordered by angular headlamps with some more snappy accents on the vehicle’s cheeks. 

Onto its flanks are boxy wheel arches complemented by shapely windows. The wide running boards reinforce its can-do-anything, go-anywhere attitude. 

It rides on a set of 16-inch wheels shod in 245/70 series all-terrain tires. 

At the back, the MG TRQ-L gets a sports bar, a bed with a painted bedliner, and some more angular lighting. 

Interior 

Inside, the latest addition to MG Philippines’ stable comes with decent tech. 

These include an instrument cluster that combines analog gauges and a digital meter and a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

For added comfort and improved cabin aesthetics, it comes with leather seats and a leather steering wheel. 

Safety 

When it comes to safety, the MG TRQ-L gets the below technologies: 

• Seatbelts
• Airbags 
• Anti-lock braking 
• Electronic brake-force distribution 
• Hill descent control 
• Cruise control 
• Emergency brake assist 
• Electronic stability program 

Variants, pricing 

The MG TRQ-L is available in two variants: one equipped with an automatic while the other a manual transmission. They are priced at P1.338 million and P1.248 million respectively. 

To help promote the pickup truck, MG Philippines has announced a special introductory price for the two variants: 

MG TRQ-L 4X2 AT	P1.318 million
MG TRQ-L 4X2 MT	P1.198 million

In addition, the first 200 buyers of the MG TRQ-L will receive free upgrades in the form of corner steps (estimated worth, P12,500) and tailgate assist (worth P8,500). 

Outdoor build

During the product launch, a dressed up MG TRQ-L was displayed on the dealership. 

The upgrades were done by Overland Kings.
