Mini Blows the Lid Off its Newest Convertible Cooper
MANILA: After its grand debut on the Indian soil, the 2016 Mini Convertible has finally been presented to the Philippine audience. The slick looking open-top hatchback made its first appearance back in 2015, and was given a warm welcome by both, the buyers and the critics. The car was praised not only for its city-car like size with a retractable soft-top but also for its iconic style and superb handling regardless of traffic conditions. The launch took place at the Bonifacio Global City showroom in presence of several officials of the Autohub Group, who are the brand’s official distributors in the Philippines.
The most striking highlight of the newly launched Mini is indeed its attractive body styling, that was presented in a sporty red paint with black/white stripes on the hood to give it a sporty look. The 2016 Convertible Cooper’s design is borrowed largely from the Cooper models of old, but the chrome highlights on the headlamps and taillights along with the sporty body kit add a significant amount of freshness. The hood flows seamlessly with the oval shaped headlamps and also includes a hood-scoop that provides a subtle hint of the monster that sits underneath. The dimensions of the current model have also seen a significant increase as compared to the older models. The Philippine showrooms will receive two variants for the new Mini Cooper Convertible, the S A/T and the John Cooper Works A/T both of which will be offered at PhP 3.15 million and PhP 3.95 million respectively. The S A/T is equipped with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo engine that puts out an impressive 190 bhp with a torque of 280 Nm. The John Cooper variant on the other hand, is available with the same engine that has been tuned to provide a higher output of around 230 bhp with a torque of 320 Nm.
If you’re not very fond of cars with retractable soft-tops as they prove to be a big hassle, then you certainly need to put all your worries aside with the 2016 Mini Convertible. It features a fully automatic soft-top that can be opened or closed even while driving at 30-35 kmph. This sure sounds a bit too hard to believe, but it actually works perfectly as claimed by the manufacturer. Additionally, one can also open a portion of the roof making it function like a sunroof, providing more versatility to its open-top aesthetic.
