Mitsubishi PH Fortifies Commitment to Sustainability Through Recent CSR Projects

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) continues to show its commitment to environmental sustainability and community development through two key projects.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the recent CSR projects of MMPC?

MMPC recently completed its three-phased forestation project and established a partnership with Philippine Business for Social Progress for the Balik-Baterya Scholarship Program.
  • Where did MMPC establish its forestation project?

MMPC's forestation project covered three different locations across Luzon: Bangui, Ilocos Norte; Siniloan, Laguna; and Infanta, Quezon.
  • Who were the beneficiaries of MMPC's previous Balik-Baterya Scholarship Program?

A portion of the proceeds from recycling is now used to provide scholarships for senior high school students at Don Jose Integrated High School and Biñan City Senior High School-Timbao Campus.
  • MMPC recently completed its three-phased forestation project, planting different species of trees on a 100-hectare plot of land across various provinces in Luzon. MMPC started this massive forestation project as part of its commitment to improving the lives of Filipinos and in line with its goal for a more sustainable future.

MMPC established its 100-hectare forestation agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), choosing three different locations — Bangui, Ilocos Norte; Siniloan, Laguna; and Infanta, Quezon.

In MMPC's latest tree planting activity, a beach forest has been established in Barangay Pinaglapatan in Infanta by planting bamboo, mangroves, and other beach forest species along the Agos River. The goal of this initiative, which was initiated by Samahan ng Magsasaka at Mangingisda ng Pinaglapatan (SMMP) with the assistance of MMPC and DENR, is to restore the riverbanks in order to prevent soil erosion in the area.

78,700 tree seedlings were planted on the 38-hectare plot of land along the Agos River thanks to the collaborative efforts of dedicated MMPC employees, local communities, and the government. These will be regularly monitored by MMPC with assistance from DENR.

“For 60 years, it’s been MMPC’s commitment to make life better for Filipinos not just through our vehicles, but also through our services and CSR efforts, and today, we are about to nurture this community’s future, one seed at a time. I hope that the seeds we plant today will flourish for generations to come,” MMPC Chairman Noriaki Hirakata stated.

Another recent significant initiative was the collaboration between MMPC and Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to officially kick off the Balik-Baterya Scholarship Program. The program, which was launched in 2019 in partnership with Oriental Motolite Marketing Corporation (OMMC), involves the proper recycling and disposal of used hazardous lead-acid batteries produced at the MMPC Plant.

Proceeds from recycling goes to the corporate social responsibility fund of MMPC, where a portion is now used to provide scholarships for senior high school students at Don Jose Integrated High School and Biñan City Senior High School-Timbao Campus.

“I am grateful that this collaboration has led us to contribute not just to the preservation of our environment, but also to giving back to the community by raising funds to support scholarships for students. By investing in the education of the youth, we provide opportunities for the younger generation to realize their full potential and to create a difference in the world,” MMPC Executive Vice President for Corporate Division Takehisa Usami said in his speech at the Memorandum of Agreement signing.

These two projects demonstrate MMPC's commitment to bringing about positive change, promoting a sustainable future for the environment and the Filipino youth.
