New Cavitex toll rates to be implemented by May 22, PUVs get reprieve

MANILA: Starting on Sunday, May 22, Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) and its joint venture partner, the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA), in cooperation with the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), will implement new toll rates for the Cavitex R-1 segment.

The scheduled implementation in Parañaque Toll Plaza on May 12 was postponed to give public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators more time to register for the toll reprieve program, which allows them to enjoy the previous toll rates of P25 for Class 1 and P50 for Class 2 through a rebate program.

The toll reprieve program is RFID-driven, thus all PUV operators and drivers have to do is register their account with the program in coordination with their transport groups. The program will run for 90 days, beginning on the first day of the new toll rates' implementation.

The TRB thanked CIC and PRA for their cooperation and assistance to the mass transport groups.  All drivers and operators of the 1,420 PUVs that go through Cavitex are eligible to register in the program.

The new rates include the periodic toll petitions from 2011 and 2014, as well as an add-on toll petition for expressway improvements such as bridge lane widening. As a result, beginning May 22, motorists traveling through the Cavitex R-1 segment (Cavitex Longos Bacoor to MIA Exit v.v.) would be charged the following VAT-inclusive amounts: P33 for Class 1 vehicles, P67 for Class 2, and P100 for Class 3.
