Next-gen Nissan Titan XD to do away with the diesel V8

MANILA: Nissan's troubles aren't alien to anyone. The Japanese automaker has already started cutting-off jobs around the globe and is all-set to close some production plants as well. Additionally, the aftermaths of the financial trouble have now landed on a production model. One of the better Nissan pickups out there,

the Titan XD will no longer come housing a diesel-fed mill in its next-iteration. The automaker has cited that the production of the diesel-fed Titan XD will hit a dead end by December 2019. Instead, there will be a gasoline-fed motor that will serve the pickup truck with power.

A Nissan spokesperson accepted the fact that the decision is made considering the recent financial doldrums and a gasoline-fed mill will benefit Nissan in the long run. The current-gen Titan XD is powered by a 5.0-litre Cummins V8 that produces 314 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 752 Nm. Also, a gas-powered powertrain will enable the 2020 Nissan Titan XD to further strengthen its case against the likes of Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and Ram 1500.

Another reason behind Nissan choosing the Titan XD to try its axe on is the poor sales numbers accumulated by the pickup truck. In the USA, Nissan managed to trade a total of 2,242 units of the pickup in July 2019. Ford, on the other hand, sold just about a similar number of F-150s in a matter of a day. You see now why Nissan is all over the place these days.

Nissan also displayed the Filipino-designed Nissan Titan Warrior Concept not so long ago. However, with the diesel motor to be ditched very soon, the Titan Warrior should also come housing a gasoline motor, if and when it comes out of the production facilities. Moreover, something like the Nissan Titan Warrior will also assist Nissan in eating up some sales of the Ford F-150. All in all, the future of the Nissan Titan looks nothing but entertaining for automobile enthusiasts.
