Next-gen Tamaraw SWB gas trim to be released by Q1 2025

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has deferred the release of the short-wheelbase (SWB) variations of the next-generation Tamaraw to the first quarter next year.

In a press conference shortly after the launch, TMP Executive Vice President Jing Atienza told Zigwheels Philippines that the aforementioned variant will be out in the market by March 2025.

This means that those eyeing to get their hands on the light commercial vehicle’s most affordable version — among other options — will have to wait a little longer.

Based on the announcement during the vehicle's ceremonial roll-off, the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw —  which is built under the International Multi-purpose Vehicle 0 (IMV 0) platform — will have a starting price of below P800,000.

Last Friday, the grand launch only revealed four body types — with the retail price ranging between P937,000-P1.075 million.

Just like the other next-generation Toyota Tamaraw variants, the gasoline-propelled SWB trim will be produced in its Santa Rosa facility —  where the Vios and Innova are being manufactured.

The powertrain that will be fitted into the said offering will be a 2.0-liter gasoline engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox that can deliver a maximum of 137 horses with 183 Newton-meters of torque.

All next-generation Toyota Tamaraw units — the gasoline-powered version included — will come with safety features such as airbags, seatbelts, and anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution.
