NLEX to impose toll hike starting tomorrow
Travelling full stretch of NLEX is now P24 more expensive for Class 1 vehicles
MANILA: Toll fees for all vehicle classes passing through the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) are set to increase tomorrow (January 20).

According to the company, the toll hike is necessary to continue delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality expressway service.This was after the NLEX Corporation, a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), managed to secure approval for the said adjustment from the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB).
For reference, here are the new toll rates for NLEX that are scheduled to take effect:

The aforementioned prices in the open system, which were initially posted by NLEX management on the tollway’s official Facebook page, are P6 more expensive for Class 1, P12 more for Class 2 (buses and small trucks), and P16 more for Class 3 vehicles (large commercial vehicles with three or more axles and dump trucks).
For the unaware, the aforementioned open system of NLEX spans Navotas, Valenzuela, and Caloocan, and extends to Marilao, Bulacan. The closed system, meanwhile, stretches between Bocaue, Bulacan, and Sta. Ines, Mabalacat City, Pampanga, and Subic-Tipo.
Travellers journeying through the full length of NLEX (Metro Manila to Mabalacat City), meanwhile, will pay P24 more for Class 1, P60 more for Class 2, and P72 more for Class 3.

Why the toll increase on NLEX?
As shared by NLEX Corporation, the toll hike detailed above will support its mission to provide “safe, efficient, and quality expressway service.”
The company likewise mentioned that it has several projects in its pipeline. These include the first two-kilometer stretch of NLEX-C5 Northlink, which travels from the NLEX Mindanao toll plaza to Quirino Highway. According to the company, it is targeting to finish the said project this year.
Additionally, the NLEX toll hike was supposed to take effect in 2023. But as the company disclosed, it was spread over two tranches to lessen the impact on expressway users.
