Now here: The Lamborghini Huracán STO, most 'track-focused' version of nameplate

MANILA: The "most track-focused, street-legal version" of the Lamborghini Huracán super sports car, the new Lamborghini Huracán STO, arrives in Lamborghini Philippines’ showrooms.

Lamborghini said the Huracán STO (Super Trofeo Omologato)  carries the motorsport heritage of its Squadra Corse’s Huracán Super Trofeo EVO racecar, and Huracán GT3 EVO that won the 24 Hours of Daytona three times, and the 12 Hours of Sebring twice.

The Huracán STO is powered by a mid-mounted, naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine producing 640hp and 565Nm of pull. A Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) dual clutch transmission manages the power sent to the rear wheels.

The Huracán STO sprints from a standstill to 100kph in three seconds, to 200kph in nine seconds, and attains a top speed of 310kph.

To ensure a sporty feel, Lamborghini said the V10 engine has been calibrated for a more "direct pedal-to-throttle response and a sharper sound at high revs." Gear changes have also been made quicker.

To further reflect its racecar inspiration, the Huracán STO sports a tweaked exterior design for better airflow and reduced weight. Its hood, fenders, and front bumper are comprised of one single component called “cofango,” which combines the Italian words “cofano” (hood) and “parafango” (fender).

New air ducts on the hood increase the airflow through the central radiator to improve engine cooling, as well as help generate downforce. The cofango also has a new front splitter that directs airflow to the car's underbody and to the rear diffuser.

Found at the rear are new fenders derived from the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO, a new hood that integrates a NACA air intake for the engine to improve cooling, and a prominent shark fin that helps to further stabilize the Huracán STO when cornering. A manually adjustable rear wing allows the super sports car adapt to different racetracks, driving styles, and conditions.

Meanwhile, the super sports car is said to use carbon fiber in more than 75% of its exterior panels, most of which are made as single pieces to make them stiffer and lighter. The carbon fiber rear fender, lightweight windscreen and magnesium rims result in the Huracán STO weighing only 1,339 kilograms, 43 kilograms less than the already lightweight Huracán Performante.

For better corner carving, the Huracán STO has a wider wheel track, stiffer suspension bushing, specific anti-roll bars, and Lamborghini’s MagneRide 2.0, an electromagnetic system that controls the suspension. Complementing these is Lamborghini’s rear-wheel steering system.

Three new driving modes — STO, Trofeo, and Pioggia — "exemplify the Huracán STO’s racing spirit."

The default STO mode is for road driving, with the Lamborghini Veicolo Dinamica Integrata (LDVI) vehicle dynamics system tuned for  all conditions. In Trofeo mode, LDVI assures maximum performance on dry asphalt through dedicated torque vectoring and performance traction control settings. Pioggia (rain) mode optimizes traction control, torque vectoring, rear-wheel steering and the ABS on wet asphalt to minimize loss of grip.

Also motorsport-derived are the new Huracán STO’s Brembo CCM-R brakes, which can resist heat four times higher than traditional CCB systems. With Brembo CCM-R, maximum brake power improves by 25%.

Like the exterior panels, the interior of the Huracán STO uses plenty of carbon fiber, such as the sport seats, Alcantara pieces covered with Lamborghini’s Carbonskin, floor mats (which take the place of carpets), and door panels. A rear arch with four-point seatbelts and a storage bin for a helmet inside the front trunk further reflects the Huracán STO’s racing DNA.
