Overtaking Volkswagen, Toyota Tops in Global Vehicle Sales for the First three Quarters of 2015

MANILA: Toyota turns out to be leading in the automobile market as the sales report reveal its performance during the nine months of this year. Toyota has been successful in selling nearly 7.5 million vehicles, overtaking Volkswagen which remained at the No.1 spot for the first half of the year. The reports reveal that the Toyota Motor Corp.'s worldwide sales was about 7.498 million vehicles in the first three quarters.

Volkswagen AG of Germany sold about 7.43 million vehicles that resembles close sales figures like the previous year, while General Motors sold 7.2 million vehicles. Both automakers released their sales reports earlier this month.

Volkswagen had to lose the position due to the defeat device scandal and the sales had to suffer. Meanwhile, Toyota was able to grab the position after June. The Volkswagen cars were detected with false software that violated the emission rule and regulations in the US. Until the scandal, Volkswagen was an ultimate performer and the growth rate was going great worldwide.

However, Detroit-based GM also remained one of the top-selling automaker for more than seven decades until being defeated by Toyota in 2008. In 2011, GM made a comeback but the production disrupted due to tsunami and quake disaster in north-eastern Japan. Since 2012, Toyota is leading as a top automaker in the global market. Toyota's last year’s report reveals that it was able to sell 10.23 million vehicles including vehicles like Camry sedan, Prius hybrid and Lexus models.

In 2014, Volkswagen sold 10.14 million vehicles successfully and also holds brands like Porsche, Bugatti and Audi. Meanwhile, GM was third at selling 9.92 million cars in the global market last year.
