Rally enthusiast desires to gain popularity on local rallycross again
MANILA: Rallying was one of the most famous motorsports series in the Philippines from the ‘80s to the ‘90s. Back in the day, there were a plethora of rally events being held all over the nation and even witnessed some international drivers competing. Sadly, the sport faded sometime after tracks started transforming into actual roads and Philippine motorsport turned into circuit racing.
Off-road rallying remained somewhat missing from the motorsport scene in the Philippines for nearly a decade. Thanks to quite a few eager rally enthusiasts, the discipline underwent a resurgence recently. These enthusiasts are the ones who are staging rally events once again.
In 2015, there were initially 10 participants and now, there are over 50 drivers constantly competing in the 12 round series, which are held in different venues. The provinces of Pampanga and Cavite as seen as the host venues most recently. The event was restored through the Philippine Rallycross Series (PRS) in 2015. The conventional rallycross event was able to make its comeback in the year 2015 and has been a consistent motorsport event since then, approved by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP).
Anjo Perez, rally enthusiast and veteran motoring journalist, freshly started the Rally Driving Immersion Project (RDIP). RDIP made its appearance on July 7, 2019, during the 7th round of the PRS in Tanza, Cavite. It is an experiential ride and drives portion, which aspires to provide a simple to join arrive and drive program for future participants.
He tried this experiment in hopes to draw more interest and understanding. An Isuzu D-max pickup truck has been assigned in partnership with Isuzu Philippines Corporation, Nitto Tires, PIAA, Black Rhino Wheels, CTEK, Ichiro Motor Oils, and SONAX to participate in the remaining legs of the PRS.
