MANILA: Subaru’ first battery electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturing line has commenced operations, the company said.

The full electric model that is being manufactured in Yajima is the Trailseeker (also known as the e-Outback in other markets).In an announcement, the automaker said that the production of its BEV units in its own backyard followed the completion of production line modifications last month, which began in August 2025.
Located in a 550,000 square-meter land in 1-1, Shoya-cho, Ota-shi, Gunma, the facility also builds the Legacy, Crosstrek, Outback, Impreza, and Forester.
The aforementioned move is eyed to establish a new mixed-model production line that can manufacture BEV, hybrid, and gasoline-propelled models all on one line.

Further, the BEV model that is being created in the updated factory is the all-new Trailseeker (also known as the e-Outback in other markets). This is the second model in the marque ‘s full electric lineup globally — which was jointly developed with Toyota Motor Corporation.
This production launch, the company noted, was achieved through deeper cooperation between the two companies (which started in 2005) in the area of electrification – alongside advancements in Subaru’s monozukuri (manufacturing) capabilities.
Per Subaru, the automotive manufacturer noted that it will continue to pursue “greater flexibility in its monozukuri” to achieve highly efficient production and development, enhancing responsiveness to changes in market demand and further strengthening the company’s competitiveness.

Powering this vehicle, whose dimensions are larger compared to its Solterra stablemate, are electric motors mated to a 74.7 kilowatt-hour battery that can dish a peak of 375 horses. Such a configuration lets the vehicle jump from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 4 .4 seconds.

Last month, the model made its way to the Singapore Motor Show 2026 — marking its first sighting in Asia outside of Japan.
