Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup returns this weekend
MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will be hosting the second leg of this year’s Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Vios Cup starting tomorrow, October 16, at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
The second leg was postponed from September to October on account of a spike in COVID-19 cases in the country, and TMP promises to to provide a safe yet exhilarating track action for all participants and racing enthusiasts. The event will also be livestreamed on the official Facebook page of Toyota Motor Philippines starting tomorrow at 10 a.m.
In the first leg of the event, veteran Vios Cup racers dominated the Circuit Championship. Maila Alivia and Jiro Garbes won two out of three races for the Promotional Class, while celebrity racers Troy Montero and Fabio Ide each claimed a spot on the podium.
Iñigo Anton, Julian Tang, and Joaquin Garrido became the consistent top three finishers in the Sporting Class, while Gerard Loy was also a consistent podium placer in the Super Sporting Class. Estefano Rivera and Red Diwa also finished in the top three of the first two races of Super Sporting Class.
Actor Alex Diaz won the Auto Cross Challenge and Influencers Class. He was followed by TV star John Manalo and social media personality Jules Aquino. Jose Altoveros took home the championship in the Media Class, while Ian Magbanua and Iñigo Roces took the second and third spots, respectively.
On the second leg this weekend, veteran racers and newcomers will come together once again to compete for the championship. Vios Cup celebrity racers Daniel Matsunaga, Troy Montero, and Fabio Ide will participate in the Circuit Championship under the Promotional Class. Beauty queens turned media personalities Winwyn Marquez, Laura Lehmann, and Carla Lizardo; TV stars Enzo Pineda, Aaron Villaflor, John Manalo, Gab Lagman, and Jacq Yu; and social media personalities Lexi Mendiola, Jules Aquino, and Bianca Yao; and radio host Gino Quillamor will race against each other in the Autocross Challenge.
TGR is Toyota’s performance development arm focusing on motorsports and the development of ever-better cars through the experience of the racing environment. The Vios Cup OMR (One Make Race) represents TGR’s goal of developing reliable and exhilarating on and off the track, showcased by the thrilling races of the Vios Cup.
