Toyota Motor PH issues recall order for Hilux GR-S

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is recalling select Hilux GR-S units to have their sports bar replaced.

Based on the company’s internal investigation, a total of 3,244 Toyota Hilux GR-S examples are covered by the service campaign — particularly those sold from July 27 last year up to April 24, 2024.

In his letter to Department of Trade and Industry Director for Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau Cherryl Carbonell, TMP First Vice President for Customer Service Operations Bernardino Arevalo explained that under certain severe usage, the brackets of the sports bar may break and get detached from the vehicle that could pose a risk on pedestrian traffic.

TMP’s special service campaign for the Toyota Hilux GR-S sports bar replacement shall be offered free of charge “as part of its corporate commitment to product safety and quality.”

Owners of the units involved are set to be notified via an official notification letter and will be invited to have the sports bar replaced at no cost.

“However, while the replacement part is not yet available, our authorized Toyota Dealers will remove the Sports Bar to prevent potential problems from occurring. Please note that our authorized Toyota dealers will contact involved customers once the replacement part becomes available,” Arevalo noted.
